This board used to be a good laugh and very helpful to newcomers and possible newcomers, but in recent times it has become very sinister, spiteful and bitter, with some very twisted and vile things being said (even we have succumbed) as UKTurk has said it is everyones right to have freedom of speech, but lets keep it light and stop attacking one another, It is no wonder the UK appears to be going down the tubes with people's attitudes as they are towards each other, we love this island and it's inhabitants, sure some are bad - much as you can say about the UK and other places, sure there are people with very valid and justifiable complaints, sure there are some people who think they have all the answers, sure the people here saw us as rich cash cows, sure some of us got ripped off, sure the lifestyle is not the same as other places, but we came here to settle and should accept the situation as it is while trying to help the country, and if we are not happy perhaps we should get on the first plane back to where we came, or perhaps we should have thought longer and harder before we parted with our hard earned cash in a very underdeveloped country, then we would not have had any cause for all this twisted bitterness - which by the way is now affecting the local populace as well, they are starting to kick back at all the criticism and rightly so.

I have no doubt this post will spark even more comment - hopefully it will not turn into another slanging match by the predictable few.

Standing ovation !!!!!

Well said billybob.

Maybe people should "look on the bright side of life " - TRNC may not be Eutopia but then does Eutopia exist ?

Its sunny, the birds are singing, i am flanked by mountains on one side and blue blue sea on the other, i can walk around the local shops and people smile at you and say hello (if you try and speak Turkish with them they have a good old giggle with you - not AT you !!), i can walk to and fro local restaurants of an evening without fear, children are adored here for being children (with no underlying threat ), no old people being mugged as elderley are treated with respect - and god dammit another bloody lizard has sneaked in the back door seeking shade !!!! Wheres my broom !

May not be Eutopia but it is where we have chosen to live so lets all try and make it as near as possible .

Have a lovely day - cos i know i am going to.

hi billybob , i agree with most of what you say , but some people post topics about things pertaining to themselves , therefore i would assume they would be expecting responses of some sort , good , bad , indifferent and some confrontational , but some posts do instill some pretty strong emotions in one , we are adults and should be able to absorb quite a lot without becoming so irate and spiteful that it does turn into a slanging match , but we must accept that sometimes it is quite hard, unfortunately thats folks for you

have a good day , simbas

Hi Billybob yes I agree entirely especially as I got attacked last week for no real reason. I dont like coming on here when people are just winding each other up - that's not right. We are all here for a reason. We have either bought in beautiful TRNC or about to buy so why should anyone be arguing. After all the sun shines - isnt that what makes people happy?

When I see the news from Burma or China, with the natural disasters and widespread suffering they have caused or the ghastly carnage in Iraq or Afghanistan, I look around in the peaceful sunshine whether here in the UK or in Alsancak and think, life's too short and precious.

Chill is the answer.

Seeing the suffering in the world today puts all our problems into perspective, we should count our blessings not waste time on petty squabbles.

hi billybob. i could not agree with you more we all have opinions on various

subjects discussed on this forum, but some people seem to take a delight in

slighting, others because of there comments or views, the problem, seems to

be that many of the subjects on discussion are not trivial to the posters, but are

riddiculed by others, as trivier, then the slightest, slight starts the abuse.i thought

the pourpose of this forum was to give help and advice to fellow members

with the odd piece of banter????? thrown in, if we sit back and think of our

replies on the subjects, then we can have a civilised debate, instead of ferbaly

abuzing etch uver and olso chekin our smelliing mystaces

have a nice day all and peace be upon u

hi you sad lot

i hate you all and you are all sick and bitter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

only joking guys i thought i would lighten the mood a bit LOL LOL

so dont start

you know what the problem why most of you guys think the forum has got a bit bitter is because as this forum get more popular and the more members join you get a lot more views and then when one person has something to say and another person does not agree they have not got the mental capacity to discuss this in a rational manner so they resort to abuse to get their point accross!!!!!

one thing i must say thou over the last month or so the forum has gone down hill a bit in the respect of all i hear is complaints and bitching to each other about this thing or that thing (not gonna mention names or subjects!!!), ok like i said many times before have your say its your right on the forum but for god sake does it have to go on and on and on and on!!!!!!!!, some members seem to forget that even thou they have spent thier life spendings to live in north cyprus they have to remember they are guests to this lovely place and yes cyprus is developing and yes some sectors are corupt but where most of you guys have come from the u.k its a thousand times worse that the reason why you left there and all the sh.t that went on there and all your complaints about it fall on deaf ears!!!!

at the end of the day you have to take the rough with the smooth (more smooth than rough here) and this has to reflect on you and your posts about subjects and to one another rather than wasting each others time and effort with arguments-abuse-bitching-to much complaining just sit back and chill and enjoy yourself and take things with a pinch of salt and count your lucky stars that you managed to get away from the rat race or the ones who havent be gratefull you can get away from it all for how ever long !!!!!

life is too short to just throw away on bitching and abusing one another and we are all lucky we are members to a forum that is informative on many things from politics and general infomation to the less trival things and of course the banter and jokes that some people bring to the forum and most important long live k.k.t.c !!!!

had my say and if any of you got a problem with that tuff luck!!!! LOL LOL

warm regards and respects to you all

why not have a separate section for people who have a problem/complaint and keep the main section for just good news things. That way if one is feeling a bit down one can just read the good stuff section and get cheered up,but if you have a problem then you can go into the other section to check for info from someone else with similar gripe .

I got a little heated recently in a political debate (fell for it like a fool) I want to apologise to one and all.

Life is to short, so a good day to you, one and all.

I am glad this has been mentioned, I was getting disheartened by the threads appearing.

The forum for me was informative, and quite funny at times and yes the more serious and even contentious subjects should be discussed but with sound reasoning, not with aggression and abusive tones which some have displayed.

All of us like to have a moan occassionally, but lets not let the whinging take over, I have got to meet and communicate with some lovely people and hope to continue to do so. I do not need to read some of the threads or infact get involved I have enough stress/hassle in my working life, don't need it in my time off.

Regards

I think the forum has provided some really good information and help during a very worrying time. But I have really enjoyed and laughed at some of the discussions and jokes. There is a place for both fun and serious topics but all should be done with consideration to other users.

We still love TRNC and look forward to the day we get there.

How do all, i had never been to Cyprus before in my life (young 53 yrs), i intended to buy property on Cape Verde or TRNC, i went to Cape Verde to the island of Sal, to me its a barren place no greenery, just wind and sand. By chance i came acroos this website, iread the banter, quetions answers and jokes. I thought to myself they sound happy, i,ll take a gander. I got a brochure from Chelsey Village, read it and bearing in mind never been before reserved an apartment. I arrive on a Saturday nighton 03/05/08 to a vert warm welcome, picked up Sunday morning at 10:00 taken to look at my apartment and decided to buy at 11:00. On the Monday morning it was signed sealed not yet delivered. In this short time i haqd found MY Utopia, the place, the people, the friendliness, it was as if i had already been accepted. I love life and i have found a place where i know i will enjoy it. We should all be gratefull we have found such a wonderful place. I can only visit for my hols but look forward to making it permanant when i retire. There is good and bad the world over, lets make it better and try and live in peace, lets remember your a long time dead.

Well done Trevor,

Sounds like you made a very good choice.

I can only echo what most have said on this thread. Life is too sort to get angry all the time.

I use this BB every day of the year as I'm scared I missed something of interest or controversy.

We all need each other, even those who have completed and got their house/villa/apartment/tent sorted, there is always the need to share information/experiences so that others can learn/avoid/improve.

Carry on.

Fantastic, good positive comments, about the place where we have chosen to live, nothings perfect but this place ticks a lot of the boxes and long may it continue, what the hell if a few bars make a bit of noise occasionly, wheres theres life theres hope. Of course we all have problems Thats Life as Sinatra sang, and when the big ones come it puts the other ones into the deep file, But the difference it makes you feel when you speak or meet with positive people , its an excellent tonic, Just take a look out there today clear blue sky,the sea ,the harbour, birds singing, butterflies, etc. etc etc, and tonight Im going for a few beers with the locals and us, and to echoe the words of Max and Paddy , "That'll Ding Dang Do Me" and i hope you all stay happy and healthy and enjoy it for as long as possible.

As UKT says people tend to go on and on and on and it is so easy to get a friend to join the board and post something derogatory about other people or businesses, we were having a look back over the past six months or so and it is quite staggering how many one time posters there are, and nearly everyone of them is slagging someone off or gets to slagging off after a couple of replies and then they are never heard of again,

You never know the day when you might need help !!

hi all as my husband trevor said. we went out without ever visiting cyprus. i was very nervous about parting with as i see it my finantial security. but it was reading the forum that gave me all the info we needed and yes i did think there are some nice people here.

so i am now having a whale of a time getting everything ready for when we can visit again in october. i loved the place instantly.

so i agree the forum has been very boring lately. but there are questions that need answereing for people , just as i needed help, and probably still will.

the jokes were so funny i am working my way through them , sending them to my friends.

Trevor I have been looking abroad for ages and ages and did not want to be one of the "If Only" gang, same as you we looked at Cape Verde but TRNC blinds it. I have been a member on another TRNC BB and there is no griping on there, but its ok having a laugh and pulling peoples leg as long as it does not get out of hand. Good Luck and all the best !!

Going through a lot of old posts I came across this one and i thought how true the posters words are, i hope the TRNC flourishes as i am looking to buy an apartment here and i want and hope to be able to integrate into their society, too many english move abroad and suddenly start trying to change everything into a little england i really do not want this to happen it is such a delight to drive up into the Karpaz and stop off at the many lovely little restaurants doing local food and meeting local people who are so relaxed about life, thats why i came here, not to have vile and rude people from back in england spoil everything for me

have a nice time all

Well said Alison, I hate when the English moan about not getting a good cup of tea (I don't drink the stuff myself) or a decent pint when they are abroad. When in NC we always give our custom to local restaurants and cafes and can't wait to go to the markets for fresh fish, fruit and veg. The thought of watching Sky and eating a 'good old fry up' (which I love by the way) makes me so angry!!! but each to their own.

Have a good day.

Hi To everyone

It's lovely to hear a positive response , i'm afraid to say i started the forum on Lapis i genuinely didn't start it to wind people up i know people on this site have had a bad time with Lapis but that isn't my fault i did however start it to get in contact with other people on our development maybe i did get a bit narked with certain people and for that i apologize some of it was tongue in cheek i hope that the Lapis forum will slowly slip away i for one won't be adding anymore to it , i have been successfull in getting in contact with people on our site , so Uk Turk this is a good site and i would recommend it to anyone

yes gary this forum in general is one of the best out there for info, help, friendly people and no abuse, but like you said i have read the topic you started i cant comment about the actual thread but what i can say is mate dont worry about people who are bitting on your comments keep on posting mate i can say thou one mans gold might be another mans rubbish

Hi ukturk,

Point noted! But jakki what the hell is the matter with a nice cup of tea?

We very much intend to integrate with Turkish lifestyle, and enjoy the beauty of the place, and the coulture and history, but that should not have to mean giving up our English heritage, and retaining a taste for the finest aspects of British cuisine.

Surely integration is better than segregation. That is the key to living in harmony wherever you live.

cruggs,

NC offers the most diverse choice of International cuisine. What more could we ask? But there must be room for the delicacies that Gran and Mom used to make! Washed down of course with a Pint or two of..........ice cold Efes!

Cheers,
