Hi everyone, I have almost persuaded my hubby to move to TRNC for good. He will need to do some part time work. He has been a butler for over 25 years and would like to know if people would hire a butler for a night for that special dinner party? He lays the table, serves the food, helps with choosing the menu and has great experience with what wine to drink. He would help with the washing up and clearing away and doesn't leave untill everything is shipshape and the hosts are happy. How much would people be prepared to pay for this service? The butlers wife.

Foreign nationals need a work permit. However no permit exists at the moment for the self employed working off their own back. İf he works for someone else they would be able to get his work permit and all above board. I heard the Gov are looking into issuing permits for the self employed because we would all like to be legal. Now a way round it is to set up a company but that involves a large amount of money to set up the company.

The original question was how much people would be prepared to pay. Nobody wants to answer in case it sets too high a level. I would be interested and thinking along the lines of say 4 hours would think £40-£50. If paid in readies who cares about any permit? It is a bit of fun only the Brits would appreciate anyway.

Hi All, Thank you for all your replies, it would seem that some people would be interested in hiring a butler for a fee of £40 - £50.00 per night. As I am a cook (retired) maybe we could offer a combined service with me doing the cooking. This would work very well for birthdays, anniversarys, christenings, confirmations etc. and lunch parties. I also have lots of experience having worked with hubby for many years. The Butlers wife

Hi Simbas, I think those are London prices, £150.0 - £200 per night are about right for freelancing, unfortunately Stephen isn't freelancing in the UK. He is however in London, so if you need a butler again and he is free to do a bit of moonlighting. Just get in touch as he will do it for much less. TRNC Vaughan, I wouldn't mind hiring a Chippendale, but hubby says it would be bad for my blood pressure. The butlers wife
