I feed them every day, but tomorrow I am going in disguise with a wig, dark glasses, and no car.

A bloody disgrace and could really only happen in Sandwell!

The reason is of course that they eat the bread and "shit" all over the floor, and make a mess, and someone could slip? But.....

Dont the Council think that they would eat anyway, (otherwise they would die) and they eat fish out of the pond etc, make a mess "and shit all over the floor", and someone could slip.

Jobsworths! Pathetic....

I do hope the Mum does not let it drop.It is interesting that the official allowed her son (aged 17 months) to continue to feed the ducks because he was too young to be prosecuted.

Let me share something with you all

A few years ago I took my students to Darica zoo in Istanbul. I went there with 5 different students over a period of a few months.

The zoo was filthy and the animals looked ill kept. But there were many people and families like myself who had come for the day.

There were big signs on every cage requesting that people do not feed the animals.

Well, This is Turkey, so every mother and grandmother had a carrier bag filled with goodies from the kitchen or garden.

I happened to witness a few people feeding carrots to the lovely giraffes. My students asked earnestly why we hadnt brought anything to feed them with. I replied that it was banned and they had their own special food.

When I went back with the last of my students I was amazed to see there were no giraffes. I asked the zookeeper where they were....

He told me that they had died of poisoning.

The visitors had unintentionally poisoned them.

sad story. They never did get n

so, to lighten up this subject I do my scientific contribution:

Feeding ducks is mostly prohibited to this reason: It is very simple and understandable when you read this in full.

You feed the ducks, the natural feeding behaviour get upside down. The ducks think they live in "plenty" and start breeding lots more ducks... These ducks shit into the water. Normal. More ducks = more shit. The bread crumps also are either eaten or sink down to the bottom of the pond, lake or whatever. Like the duck shit. This shit is disolved by bacteria. The bacteria consume lots of oxygen out of the water which is very important for the fish to live. As more shit and bread crumps are disolved by bacteria as less oxygen is in the water. This results in fish dying. Dead fish are disolved by bacterias which again pul out lots of oxygen out of the water. Result: All fish die, pond stinks, gets dark green, at the end even dead ducks and water birds. So think twice before you feed them.. (Now you know )

Interesting post henrik

Ducks like most creatures are territorial. If they are feeding from known hot spots (created by humans) they start fighting and compeing with each other for the food. I guess this is stressful for the ducks. It is preferable for them to feed naturally across the whole strectch of waterways, so interaction between the ducks and other wild birds is kept to a minimum. Anyway, this is what a scientist told me once.

"over" feeding "wild" animals is a serious subject. You could harm more than you are doing good to a few. As long as it is not allowed, you are doing more harm to nature, in the case of "feeding ducks". The explanation I gave is the way it goes. Waterproof.

Think twice..

BTW: Bird feeders, I dont think they could play an role in killing waters. I think they are ok.
