Is there a way I can tell which country I have had an e-mail from?

I have been receiving e-mails from allegedly the UK asking for my advise on a subject. However something is not quite ringing true with them. Can someone tell me how I find? Thanks

If they are using a web-based email service (like you and I) then you can only find out where the 'mail server' is located - mine shows up as USA because my email address ends 'yahoo.com' - even though I'm just down the road in Alsancak

If it is an email address provided by the persons ISP, then you have more chance

In Gmail, with the relevant email open, If you look at the top right of the message, you will see 'reply' with a little arrow head - click the arrow head, and select 'show original' atthe end of about the 7th line, which starts 'Received: from' there will be a group of numbers something like this: 147.178.243.154 highlight the numbers, and 'copy' them

Go to http://www.who.is/ , paste the numbers in the box, and click 'who.is search' you will see a page of info like this: http://www.who.is/whois-ip/ip-address/147.178.243.154/ - that was from Iomega in USA as you can see...

Thanks for that it turns out to be from Mountainview California.

So just had someone wasting my time again! It was supposed to be from an English girl who was conned out of money by a Nigerian here in NC.!!!! Oh well I live and learn.

But if you are only interested to find out if an email address is valid or where a message comes from, start here: http://is.gd/4U0Bq (it takes some time!).
