When I lived in Limassol back in the early 70's, it was widely spoken, that he had a house somewhere on the northern coastline

msg 4,

He did have a place here, and was apparently well regarded for his good humour and gentlemanly conduct.

During the Turkish Intervention, a friend of mine was desperate for news of his parents who were living somewhere below Bellapais Abbey, but he simply couldn't contact them.

In desperation, he rang Edward's agent, and asked if he could possible pass on a message via Edward, and find out what the situation actually was.

Edward, having sallied forth to investigate, duly reported back that the couple had draped a Union Flag on their front door, and retired to the cellar with a supply of Gin, and that they intended to stay there until all sounds of conflict had ceased!

This is long before my time here of course, I can only think of 'Callan' when I think of Edward Woodward -

A sad loss

I agree with all the above sentiments. I really enjoyed his acting, and I'm with Keith...he will forever be 'Callan' to me.

And as an Aussie I can also say that a great many Australians loved his performance in the 'Breaker'...

Breaker Morant is one of my "Top Ten Films".....mainly because of Edward Woodward's stunning performance...but Jack Thompson was pretty good too.

According to my pal, his old house is on the main road to Bellapais, above the football stadium and hotels, on the left side, shielded from the road by a large, mature garden.

It now belongs to said friends family who told me of the connection a few years back but did mention he didnt have it long before selling.

Such a sad loss to the acting fraternity. Did not realise he had a home here. Was he married to Sheila Hancock xxx

I know the house, it's owned by a friends father.

It's in Belapais and is set in a loverly garden full of trees.

Apparently Edward never got to stay in the house, the peace operation taking place before it was completed

He must have bought here around the same time as Peter Sellers! He came and went, and now the two are dead. Edward Woodward was a good actor and a gentleman. The world will miss him.

I remember he nearly died back in the eighties... he was smoking 100 ciggies a day and working long hours in the US..

A great actor..
