The Alsancak Chess Club (ACC) is now the Alsancak Backgammon & Chess Club (ABCC)!

BACKGAMMON: I'm pleased to announce the start of a backgammon course for beginners (it's free). So if you want to learn the game or refresh your skills - come to Guido's on Tuesday (from 2 pm), where Steve will be our teacher. Thank you very much for your time, Steve!

CHESS: The picture tells the story: http://is.gd/3JQBu ... Do it!

And here is the exact location for CHESS and BACKGAMMON: http://is.gd/3Y0r1

RE msg 14, mikelapta: Several players said they prefer to play outside and will come back when the weather is better. But there's no reason to stay away if you don't mind to play Inside Guido's Bistro. This week I'll start a new thread with 2011 info for chess and backgammon players.

Mike, poster (and holidaymaker) damon in msg 11 would like to play chess and/or backgammon. I informed him via email about some possibilities - here's his email address if you would like to invite him for a game: Damjan Plesec < damjan.plesec@gmail.com >.

If I just turn up with a backgammon board is that OK? Though I am more interested in learning chess. Don't have a chess board tho'.

Are there any other Cypriot Turks or expats who would like to play tomorrow at Guido's (Alsancak) or learn (the basics of) chess?

Well said, Mike! Just for the record and people who may like to join us: we start next Tuesday around 2 pm and playing at Guido's is free. Boards and pieces (chess and backgammon = tavla) are available, but everybody can bring his/her own favourite board of course...

P.S. I think the Croatian, Damjan, you mention is msg 30 is a Slovenian - Guido and Damjan, from neighbouring countries Italy and Slovenia, could easily understand each other!

P.P.S. We may apply for an EU subsidy for the ABCC (Alsancak Backgammon and Chess Club)... We have the boards and pieces, but maybe Brussels will pay for our drinks..?

It was very enjoyable. Thank you Hans for your patience with a beginner in chess. i better get some practice in before next week. Like the Idea of Brussels paying for the drinks. ;-)
