"People in our area have threatened to poison/shoot our beloved family pets. We need to find homes for them urgently. It is heartbreaking but the alternative is that they will be murdered. So: "Snowball, Poppy and Princess Diamond need homes or risk being murdered"."

Sorry but if they are Mel's pets, why are they being threatened?

The neighbours have been teasing Snowball over our garden wall when we are out, especially the local children. We have asked them not to but they persist. Snowball is obviously very frustrated and barks at them. The garden is secure for Snowball but on a few occasions he has got out as we are opening the gate and goes for a run about and barks at the neighbours who have been teasing him. Poppy and Princess Diamond have been accused of shoe theft and an allegation of a hen attack ( we have offered to pay for any loss/damage). All the neighbours seem to be on the bandwaggon now making compensation claims, the price of a chicken has risen from 10TL cooked in Starling Market to 15TL live in Baspinar, seems Poppy has a penchant for Nike Air Trainers....

The mob have advised, in the presence of the police that if any of the dogs are seen outside our property they will be shot. I am also afraid that the neighbours may throw poisoned meat over our wall when we are not here.

Shame on these people, telling lies to get money/goods out of you. They should hang their heads. I hope you find a solution soon.

Can't you 'dog proof' the garden...a small expense if it saves them....

Daisy, due to the size of the garden it would cost in excess of £1000 to raise all the perimeter walls/ add railings/fencing.

Although it's not ideal, but can you tie them up for a while, at least far enough way from a nasty neighbour, until you find a solution

Matula, Baspinar is not bad on good day, the scenery here is lovely - you could almost be somewhere else...!

Thank you Daisy for your suggestion, this was of course our first action after the mob visits of last night.

The latest responses on this board are typical of the type of crap I have come to expect from many people here. Quite obviously an animal loving person like Mel ( see some of her previous posts before you judge) who will desperately try to find a new home for their animals rather than see them poisoned or shot by their neighbours, would have done everything they possibly could to salvage the situation before this last resort.

Racoonchic, why even bother posting if you cant help? Put them out of their misery before making them someone elses problem??? Lovely...what empathy and charity you have shown. I only hope that someone would be as kind to you if there was an imminent threat of the animals that you love being poisoned, a slow and painful death.

Mel, I really hope that someone can help you very soon to rehome these beautiful dogs...take heart that not everyone is as harsh as this and some lovely people came forward to help whilst I was trying to rehome Flossie.

RE msg 13, racoonchic: (...) dutch with all his big talk and threatening attitude on here cant deal with this on his own all talk and no trousers springs to mind (...)

=> Ah! "racoonchic" thinks he can have another minute of glory attacking the Dutchman again. Well, you've never been my favourite intellectual, but this time you've proven yourself a malicious fool. I'm afraid I have to shout to you: THEY ARE NOT *MY* DOGS, STUPID. Read the very first line in the very first post of this thread.

P.S. Reactions like racoonchic's make me sometimes wonder why I bother to try to help - but I won't be silenced by people like him.

Thank you to all of you who have been supportive. All options have been explored regarding keeping the dogs safe, all require some sort of restraint/confinement. In my opinion that is no life for a dog and I am hoping to find them a place where they can be safe and have some freedom.

If you cannot keep them indoors, why not make them a chain link "run" in the garden, away from your boundary walls and only allow full access to the garden when you are at home? Its pretty cheap per meter as are the angle iron stakes that you attach it to. My dog is kept indoors while I am at work even though the garden is dog proof, simply because I don't want anyone to have "access" to him while I am not there. If he does bark at anyone nearby I immediately call him indoors. Perhaps its a training issue?

As for the chickens, a hen that kept by villagers is usually an egg layer, hence it will be more expensive than a cooked one at the supermarket, as they have lost a source of income!!

To threaten with shooting is normal if the dogs are killing livestock (they do in the UK too), but teasing and threatening poison is not!! I would keep them shut in until the hoo-ha dies down and only let them out under strict supervision. Outline your action plan to the neighbours, the dogs will soon get used to it, and you can then keep your pets.

Jolly good idea adagirl....this is exactly the kind of solution that would work superbly!! I also think a they should offer an enormous piece of humble pie with an explanation as to what they will do. Happy neighbours will prevail once again....hopefully.

Perhaps muzzles until you can sort the problem out? I have witnessed the result of poison and it was very distressing.

Please keep your dogs with you, believe me they are very adaptable and would rather be you than possibly split up - 1 dog is hard to re-home let alone 3. With regards freedom, a good excerise with you every day would be ok. If your dogs are a nuisance (which - escaping and barking at people and possibly killing livestock) they seem to be - then this will also make people think twice about re-homing. Dogs are not small humans - they will be fine kept indoors or in an enclosed area (a pen). Or is it that you cannot cope with them?

Adagirl, thank you for your advice on dogcare/neighbourhood issues, some of which I find rather patronising. I am not a complete cretin, I know the neighbours have every right to be upset about our dogs chasing their chickens and lifting their slippers. We had no idea anyone had chickens running loose in our neighbourhood. The owner of the chickens has now apologised to us for his outburst and no charge was made. We are talking about a 4 month old puppy and a small Cyprus terrier here, not a pack of savage man eating wolves. Anyone who has met "Poppy" will know she is a very sweet dog and these visitations stating her deviant behaviour were a surprise to us. Regarding the barking, hey dogs bark, just like the other 50 neighbourhood barking/howling dogs. I am asking for a secure and loving home for the dogs, they can be separated, judging by your comments we are totally unfit as owners anyway.

con'td

Just to be clear:

Poppy was a rescue dog, we found on the street, she was 2 weeks from giving birth. We rehomed all the puppies, which was not easy. Snowball was also facing a sticky end when we took him on. We also have 4 cats.

With all respect, you do not understand the local politics of this area and who we are dealing with.

We do not want to chain our dogs up all day, we want them to have secure homes out of danger. If you can help us with this I would be grateful.

Pogle, i do not think that adagirl was being patronising at all, i believe that she was merely trying to offer up some solutions, which i thought were very reasonable. I understand chaining dogs up all day is not the best idea, but the chainlink pen she suggested was. This way they can still stretch their legs and combining that with a lovely long walk (on the leash) should suffice until you find someone to take them, or maybe to improve on the dog proofing of the garden at a later stage. These were merely (good) suggestions and i do not think any meaness was meant by it,

I certainly did not mean to be patronising - I was merely trying to help you with suggestions as to how to keep your dogs! Many dog lovers seem to have this idea that keeping a dog confined is cruel. In my opinion it is not, especially if it helps to keep the dog (and others around him) safe. If it is your preference to see your dogs go, rather than have them confined when they are alone on the property, then it is your choice. I sincerely hope that you can re-home them.

Sorry Dutch, what is that meant to mean?????????? Someone wants to rehome their dogs because they cannot control them, they have been sent sensible, cost effective methods to keep them, I dont see what the problem is??? Sincere apologies to all the offended neighbours, keep the dogs from getting loose and running around barking at neighbours and killing chickens and isnt the problem solved without re-homing? All it takes is a little effort? I have to ask, as DD did - do they just want to get rid of their dogs?

Would also say that "baby" the pedigree dog has been re-homed within a day! Stray dogs of no particular breed and that have a tendency for escape and trouble are going to be a lot harder to re-home. So I ask again, why not apologise to your neighbours and keep the dogs within your garden? It is possible if you really want to.

Hans

Can i just say how much respect i have for what you Lilli and Keith do for abandoned pets on here i think it is fantastic. You will always get the idiots who don't engage brain before opening Mouth.

Please take no notice and please keep up the good work for all the abandon animals out there and for Trudy who must be at her wits end what is going to happen to Scubi.

And no i have not met any of these 3 people but i feel they all deserve any praise they get for trying to rehome these animals Keep up the fantastic work.

Steve, who are these idiots you refer to? Those people that are trying to keep the dogs with the owners by any chance? If I were in a similar situation I would exhaust EVERY avenue and welcome EVERY suggestion before getting rid of my dog. All I have done is suggest affordable, sensible options to an almost impossible rehoming situation. What is wrong with confining these dogs within the garden? I dont understand ? Who has a garden big enough for three dogs to run loose - that will by admission try to escape and run at people barking and kill chickens??? I live next to a farm and my neighbours would be horrified and so would I, if my dog got out and barked at them and killed their livestock!!

RE msg 34: Daisy D, before you go on giving advise and suggestions. May I ask what happened with your idea to "foster dogs and cats"? A month here and a month there, wasn't that the basic set-up? Would have been a solution in this case - if only to calm everybody down.

The somewhat fanatical texts in this thread are disappointing and worrying.

In reference to the 'Fostering System' I am still waiting on getting the website up and running...i don't know how to do it, but, i do have someone working on it. I don't see the point in starting something half cocked,, might as well do it properly, but sometimes due to circumstance, these things take time, which i did say before. Hope that clears it up for you Hans.

RE msg 47, racoonchic: (...) but the first line of the thread does suggest the dogs are yours (...)

=> You still haven't got the picture. This is the (my) first line in the first message of this thread: (Text and pics uploaded on request - Hans Doeleman) Why you don't understand this is beyond me.

Than I wrote a text emailed to me by a board member and to make sure that everybody would understand it - I put the text between quotation marks. Why would I put my own text between quotation marks?!

Well, I know my antagonists on this and other boards and I'm flattered by their attention. However, my advise is to "to play the ball and not the man" as we say in Holland. Have a nice evening.

RE several msgs from adagirl: (...) I have always had a lot of respect for you DC but now I think you are a bit of a drama queen?????? Dogs threatened with murder? Come on a bit OTT?????????????? Cos nohing on an update yet? (...)

=> Dear adagirl. If you don't mind: I did a reading for mainly British expats on "medieval Kyrenia town" tonight, which kept me rather busy. Furthermore: on my way back I stopped at Guido's for a drink and was persuaded by Liz to make some pics about another dog needing to be rehomed. Watch this space tomorrow, I'm a bit tired now. AND PLEASE READ CAREFULLY NOW, ADAGIRL: THE DOGS IN THIS THREAD ARE NOT MY DOGS. REPEAT: *NOT* (**NOT**) MY DOGS. I tried to help someone with a problem. I have no obligation to keep you updated, do I? Why don't contact Mel mentioned in the first message: "Please contact Mel if you can help: 0533 855 5659 or mail: melaniepartington@hotmail.com (Pogle)." I really don't like the way you talk to me.

Pogle, I am so so sorry. I am in Scotland but had hoped that a solution would have been found. Snowball was a beautiful dog. This should not have happened. Thinking of you.

To all the idiots (sorry if you were just trying to put this back to the top you are not included if that was the intention of your post). Pogle had a real problem and needed help he did not need the negative posts here and DC was doing his best to help and did not deserve the nasty personal insults put on this thread.

It has been put on many other threads 'IF YOU HAVE NOTHING POSITIVE TO SAY, JUST GO AWAY'!!!!!!!

I think that it would be a very good idea if this thread was now closed. DD and Adagirl you 2 should be ashamed of yourselves, if you had ever read any of Pogles other posts you would have realised that she is an animal lover pure and simple. This post was about trying to rehome her dogs who were under a very real threat of being killed by the neighbours. Now that Snowball is dead perhaps its either of you 2 who might want to 'eat a huge piece of humble pie'... I thinks thats how you worded it isnt it DD?

Please would one of the admin close this thread asap.
