We need some help here please, Last night on my way to the shop I noticed a medium size dog curled up behind our generator, I went to it and it seemed very distressed. I bought it a tin of dog food from the shop and gave it to him. And left it at that. We are not very experienced with dogs, (always had cats) Got up to day and he, as got into our grounds and is curled up on the chair by the front door.It looks like a hunting dog, medium size, White with brown patches. We are concerned he is unwell or injured. He is very friendly and seems scared. And making some strange noises almost like he has a cold. We live high up in Baspinar, and are wondering if he could have been dumped by the Hunters on Sunday. Can any one tell us please the correct way to go with this bearing in mind that firstly we think the dog needs vetinary help. Please note. Computor contact is random . (due to electric situation) this is my mobile 0533 843 6539

It has most certainly either been dumped or has escaped due to ill treatment. Be careful, as any and all affection you give this animal will probably mean you will have a dog...it will latch on to you, and if you are not 'dog' people this may become an irritant for you. However, you will also find you have gained an amazing buddy who will love and care for you like no other. If you are prepared to take on this responsibility, i would suggest you take it to a vet first and foremost, then take it from there. If you need any advice on general care for this animal, please give me a call and i will be more than happy to help out. Good luck in making your choice.... DD

Yes I think you have a point, we love all animals, it,s just the practical side of it, and we have a cat of 11 years. Also we go back to UK from time to time so lots of reason s why NO DOG. But it as taken to us and after its second big bowl of food he as perked up no end, It is following us around and trying to come in the house. We have realised it,s very thin, and it.s a tall dog, just looked smaller last night in the dark. He has a beautiful temperament, and some one as just arrived and he is up right away to ivestigate.

Hi JohhnyLee we were in exactly the same situation as you more than 2 years ago now. A beautiful liver and white Pointer was hanging around our house, extremely thin, covered in fleas, looking very sorry for himself and he was wearing a collar. Of course nobody ever claimed him. He is now the most fantastic, healthy, gorgeous dog of 3 years old. He has a wonderful temperament and is very happy living outside (with a warm kennel with lots of bedding of course). Ironically, we have so many TCs asking if they can take him hunting! Please find it in your heart to add him to your family. You won't regret it and he will be your best buddy in no time. Good luck. Jo PS I used to have a picture of my lovely Charlie as my avatar but you know the story ...

| Pointers make super pets! They have a naturally friendly disposition, you would be hard pushed to find a vicious one....also you will find that most curs here have pointer in them....and love to work and to please they will do almost anything to have a pat on the head...a truly lovely breed...but as you say, it's not advisable for you to take him on, i do hope it all works out for you. | Message 6 is a good one. Keep him as an outdoor pet with a kennel, he will not affect your cats then. I have had cats and dogs and they do get used to each other - the cats always come out on top. Good Luck All the love you give will be returned 100 fold. |

JL - if you do decide to keep the mutt (just joking - I love all animals) I think that keeping him/her outside from the word go, with some warm bedding and, obviously after a visit to the vet, is the way to go. My old Dad (he was a little like NN's Uncle Percy) always maintained that dogs should be kept outside. Good luck. J

mess 15 - As my old Uncle Percy used to say... "dogs and women - keep them outside right from the start, then there'll be no confusion later"... Never did him any harm...

Hi Racoonchic, thought about that , but were concerned that he would keep returning for more. So I sang to him, havn,t seen him since, Actually we fed him he seemed to come to life and now he's dissapeared, probably be back at dinnertime, The good news is that when he arrived he was in a sorry state, but after a couple of nights on our terrace and some food, well it seems to have done the trick.

I was wondering, do you have some kind neighbours...? If you do, maybe you could set up some sort of feeding ritual for him/her, that way at least you know he's being fed and watered and can come and go as he pleases. Just remember to not let him in the house or show too much affection (although this can be quite difficult). This way when ever you are away, the neighbours could make sure there is always some grub for him/her, and you can rest assured that it's not starving and worrying chickens/sheep etc etc... DD
