Message 8. I think you may have your toos and tiels mixed up, as I paid £300 for an African Grey in 1988 in Lefkosa. A cockatoo would be very expensive if you can find one. They stopped importing the larger birds during the bird flu scare. Cockatiels are bred here, and are not too expensive.

Hi Baldeagle, which market was this??? I am wondering as İve never seen animals for sale in the markets???

I think you mean 'cockatiel' 40 or 50 tl (small but bigger than your hand, normally grey with yellow faces pick cheeks) when you say parrot can you describe it??? 250 is very cheap, I am asuming it cant be bred properly which usually means health problems and very hard if not impossible to tame.

Bridie: how is your grey doing??? is it tamed? or do you have any problems?

My Parrot is fine, although has had the odd illness. Pertev the vet saved him 2 years ago as he had 5 seizures in one day. His medication caused him to start plucking his feathers out, but we know how to remedy that now. When you say "tame", we never take him out of his large cage as he is nervous, and we have three dogs. He has a vast vocabulary, but his language is awful, and before someone says he learnt it from his owner, I used to have seven teenagers living in the house!!

Pertev is an excellent avian vet, and knows his stuff. He is located in Girne. If you are travelling from the West, turn left at Tempo Supermarket, then take first left, and you will see the surgery in front of you. His number is:-05338635818.

Age, I have never asked, but would put him in his thirties.
