Well, I was in the 'south'

I miss warm sea, sun, beaches, food, ..

If I'm going to have an accident / be in hospital .. I'd rather be in the UK

Nice to visit ... but I've been there... done it...

Ask me again in the middle of winter ;)

I have returned several times over the last twenty years from three different foreign countries, and the reasons for returning were different each time.

As to how I found U.K - well, I left again each time!

At the end of the day one either believes in 'destiny' and that each phase of life is part of the learning curve, or that one accepts where one is for the moment and not expecting to either go or stay until life pushes one on. (It doens't always) BUT my question would be, how many people have done the 'yo-yo' bit in returning to U.K and then finding 'paradise doesn't exist - OR is it a quesiton of money. If mmmmmmmmmmm had pots of money would he STILL stay in U.K?

I can understand why people move back to the Uk or move to other countries. We have only been here 6 months and I think I would like to move away from here, either to the south or another country altogether.

I've just come back from TRNC having spent 3 months over there. Going back in January, and I can't wait!

What has the UK got to offer me........nothing.

I suppose it depends what people are looking for, but I think I would like to try different places before I settle down anywhere.

Another layer?

Hot soup and curry doesn't even warm me through. And as for the depressing and stressed out people over here.

Get me home, and quick.

Doesn 't it all depend on what you want from life?

If I had pots of money and could travel freely ('im downstairs can't!), I would be like the famous film stars (and a friend of mine) who has house sin loads of places and just pops from one to another as the whim takes.

Butr for me, I need to be involved and that is difficult if you are not in one place long enough.

So, again, it all depends on what you want; what makes you happy and having the wherewithall to get it.

But anywhere is normally, paradise for the first year; the warts appear in the second year; and the third year is the decider. A bit like relaitonships really. They reckon if a person is the one for you, you know it within 6 months max.

And remember, what is one man's meat is another's poison. Wouldn't do if we all liked the same place - it would sink with the weight of the millions of bodies on it.

Ive been in uk for last 3 weeks to visit my sick, dying brother. We have lived in North Cyprus for 6 years.

My first impressions of coming back to England is the weather, traffic, crime, stressy and I feel claustropbic.

For medical attention Turkey for me.My wife had her gaul bladder removed there in a fantastic hospital in Istanbul.Price was unbelieveable only 1,000 pounds uk 5,000 pounds for same operation.Dental treatment

is a saving in Cyprus as well.NHS is ok but when it comes down to speed of having your operation it can be

the difference between life and death.

My reply would be, yes I love it here, the people I have met/weather etc but also people have other reasons for returning to the UK and that's missing the family you love, when I moved here 5 years ago my Son moved over with my grand children and then my other Son did also it was wonderful but then when one Son and children moved to work in Thailand and the other moved back to the UK. I was left here on my own, and when you live for the grand children and family as I do, it has made this decision so hard, but after a lot of thought and upset I have decided to sell up and move back, then I can flit between the UK and Thailand, so that's the reason for leaving this wonderful place not the Country but loneliness.

Don't knock peoples reasons without knowing the facts

There is good and bad in both, I love it here in the TRNC but my family ties in the UK are very strong and will always pull me back, also it isn't cheap to live here if you want the same standard as in the UK, in the winter our gas bill is horrendous and in the summer the water bill is ludicrous, food is expensive to buy but much cheaper to eat out ..swings and roundabouts I guess so I divide my time between the two.

my regular short breaks to my villa is heaven sent I enjoy my short visits around 2 weeks each time and been to lapta 6 times this year.its just the plane fare at around £200-£300 North Cyprus is a perfect for de stressing

I set up the villa to comfort zone and bought a car so find my visits most satisfactory ,before I get bored it's time to go back to Uk to my business and home I suppose being self employed i can always fly off to Lapta except the winter months that's when Uk is best otherwise between april to oct its sunny cyprus for me cheers

keldanreb. Don't park in the wrong place, don't use a phone while driving you won't get points on your licence.

Break the law and you pay as you should, so you move to TRNC so you can break the law?

palacerclass..If your operation is classed as urgent you will not have to wait to long.I was classed as urgent and had mine witin one week and that was in 2003 when the waiting lists were a nightmare. If you can afford to pay then you would be daft not to go somewhere that is quicker and less expensive, but I do not believe the NHS would allow anyone to die because of a waiting list. I know of several people who went into hospital for operations and they were cancelled when they were actually prepped for the theatre, because a more serious case had come along. What you forget is that there are another 50million people waiting for some sort of treatment here, not 200,000 as in the TRNC. I would sooner be treated here in the UK than anywhere else in the world...

I go back every 6 months to renew my disability claim and pick up the rent from my council flat in Bethnel Green, if it was'nt for Gordon and his national weath service I'd be stuck here full time assisting illegal immigrants gain access to RoC and selling Greek land.

To answer the original question set by Pipie.

The first question is simple....we ran out of money. We thought that our nest egg of £50,000 invested would give us an income we could live on. It didn't and soon found ourselves dipping in to it, and so our interest got less our top up from the capital became greater and eventually there was no money left. In the end our only money was what we had in our bricks and mortar, so we moved back to the UK.

Today we're back in the same street we left in 2003. We paid less for our present property 18 months ago than we sold it for. Myself and my partner now work, our children are in college and looking forward to University life. We now have disposable income, something we only ever had in the TRNC for 1 year. It is a lot cheaper to live in the UK. Example, electric was £300 a month in the TRNC (that included a pool and air con). Today we pay £40 a month. It is actually less stressful than our last 18 months in the TRNC and we are so pleased.

Harita/Woodspeckie..No.I do not own a property in the TRNC and I visit when the opportunity allows. Why is it important??? Are you going to tell me to get off the board bec ause I am not a property owner. If so you had better tell several others too!! See msg 25..I suppose i have said something to offend you.I made it quite clear along time ago that I did not have any property there, but it does not say I never will.I would never live there on a permanent basis though, like the old UK too much to move away permantently.Msg25 sums it up perfectly dont you think....

I admit it once failed for us in the TRNC but I will be back. When I'm older and the kids are set up in their own life, myself and my partner will return to Catalkoy to live out our days but this time we will have a small apartment on a complex, not a villa on a small estate. Once the coffers have been refilled and there is just the 2 of us, we will managed.

Coachie .. Now why would I tell you to get off the board, but you seem to know a lot more about the TRNC than the people who have lived here for 3/4 years & love the place ..

How you can say Msg 25 sums it up perfectly, I don't know .. If you are coming to live out here & need to work .. Forget it .. Timothy Cadman is 46 .. I am 69 .. Big difference .. We are not having to rely on investments .. Don't know about you but I have none .. After working for almost 50 years we are now reaping the benefit (not "benefits") of what we worked for & are ENTITLED to & can manage here very well ..

Read msg 29 .. Sums it up perfectly .. I WILL BE BACK ..

Why I am sat here at 3.55am typing this, I must be mad .. Coming back to the UK later today for a week .. My best friend of 40 years passed away on Tuesday .. First time back in nearly 3 years & not looking forward to it a bit ..

Anyway I rest my case & long live TRNC warts & all..

Coachie are think your on another planet your only experience of living is in uk.

My brother 48 was diagnosied with cancer of the brain end of august this year,he had to wait 6 weeks

before he could have the biopsy, where is the speed of the NHS in this case Coachie, which was carried out in kings colledge in london.

So coachie this is my point NHS is great when its free but my brother sacrificed the waiting

and waiting for that biopsy,if it was done private he probably would of had a bit longer to live,

as it happens he has 4 tumers in the brain, one the size of an apple in the middle of the brain,he will be lucky

if he makes christmas. You were lucky coachie with your op,but this case is completely different its unoperational.Never smoked !!

Re Msg 31 , i am very shocked that your brother had to wait 6wks before he had his scan . The NHS works to a no longer than a 2wk protocol when it comes to diagnosis of possible Cancers of any kind , and if it is a confirmed diagnosis , the treatment is commenced almost immediately . I am so very sorry to hear of your brothers illness .

Kind regards , Simbas

woodpeckie....you are righ,t no one is above the law. but that was not my point. the country is skint and they are picking on the motorist big time.we will have to pay tax on how many miles we drive soon...if i do a job in city london,i charge the client £8 c charge,,,£64 parking...$10 fuel....thats £82 a day or £410 a week on top of any works. trnc here i come.

Palacerclass..What has my only living in the UK got to do with what has happened to your brother ,which I am extremely sorry to here about.I do not know what his history is so I do not intend to get involved in a heated discussion about the right and wrongs of the NHS. I was merely pointing out that in urgent cases as SImbas has also stated, they take the appropriate action,as they did with me.Yes, I probably am one of the lucky ones, but my bypass procedure took place 6yrs ago when the NHS was really struggling.Today things are a hell of alot better, though some will disagree with me. My mother died at the same age as I am now(69) of heart problems, but when that happened Bypass ops were not a regular thing and had she been as fortunate as me to have had a op. she may well have lived a lot longer.Like your brother she suffered for 5yrs before she died, but in all honesty I could not blame the NHS for it. Sometimes you just have to accept that life can be extremely cruel at times.....

Harita..I do not know anywhere near as much as most of the residents do concerning the political situation out there.I would not even think about buying there until there was some definate decision made on its future.I am the same age as you and I would have no problems living there as far as cost is concerned.I spent 2 weeks there in June on self catering basis, buying our food from the supermarkets and eating out once a week.It cost about the same as back here. The weather is a damned sight better than in the UK,but i do like to see the green grass and meadows and listen to the birds.Too much brown dirt and dust for me although you do have some nice green areas around.I travelled the whole length of the island whilst I was over and there are some beautiful sites to see,but as Tom Jones says The green green grass of home.Going on holiday there is wonderful, living the rest of my life there, afraid not.Hope you enjoy your visit back here, the weather is lousy, cold wet and windy, typical UK..

Pipie..I suspect there are quite a few people who want to come back to UK but are not able to do so because they burnt all there bridges when they left, plus the fact that the bottom of the property market over there has collapsed the same as here.I read a lot of the threads from all sorts of people on the forum and the most troubling to most of them is the way prices are rocketing. This is causing a .ot of concern. There are good and bad things about both countries but whatever you decide you make your bed and have to sleep in it busted springs an all...

palacerclass Im so very sorry to hear about your brother.I went back to UK in july and as I suffer from IHD I had an attack. The ambulance was there in 10 minutes and I was kept in a monitored all night. The fire alarms weny off three times during the night. I have to say even though I had no sleep the treatment I received was first class. I do not think I would have got better being private, maybe my own room and access to a phone. Even that Guido was calling all the time from cypris and they let me take the calls. They were fantastic and would not release me until the blood test results proved I hadnt had a heart attack which is 12 hours after. xxxx

I think that, whenever a thread such as this starts, you do get a lot of people posting who say "can't wait to live in TRNC" or "spent three weeks there in September - can't wait to move, etc." What I would say to those people is that it's a whole different ball game living in a country rather than just spending a few weeks in that country from time to time. I appreciate that a lot of people thoroughly enjoy living in TRNC and wouldn't ever want to come back, but equally, how many are there that have made the move permanently and find it wasn't all it was cracked to be?

My humble opinion, having spent holidays in TRNC for 20 odd years, would definitely rent before burning your bridges completely in the UK.
