Just go to a coffee shop. its not really a treat, pretty much tastes the same wherever you go.

The old place opposite the petrol station in Esentepe is very good and only 1 TL too. All of the political party coffee shops eg DP and CTP are also good. In Girne the Round tower coffee shop and the one next to the dove fountain in the garden across the road form the main carpark are good as well.

The places where it tastes like sludge are not making it correctly of course. They haven't cooked the coffee grounds from cold - they have merely added hot water to coffee grounds. You should complain and not pay.

you shouldnt pay more than 1tl for a coffee, 50 kurus in local coffee shops. dont think you can really judge where the best is, its a bit like saying "wheres the best bottle of efes?" Turkish coffee is just part of the day for the locals, they meet at the local coffee shop, if got a spare 5 mins, have a coffee etc im sure someone could taste the difference but to most people its just the same wherever you go, apart from maybe restaurants that just serve it because they feel thay have to and charge the same as any other cup of coffee.

Our local coffee shop in the square at Karsiyaka - must make it with cold water and bring to boil gradually, also I think Con's (Johns) coffee is best. I have to have two each morning in the square to start my day. I normally go down at about 10.30 everybody welcome. Do not think that men only go - that is normally so but they all make me very welcome.

It makes sense to drink what the locals do where possible and as expresso's, Cappuccino's etc are generally overpriced and are of very poor quality here it makes even more so.

Making a good espresso is a skill requiring training a high quality espresso machine that is cleaned properly and frequently and a good quality freshly roasted and ground coffee. it is extremely rare to find this combination here or most places that don't have a culture of drinking this type of coffee.

In contract most Turkish Cypriot or Mainland Turkish people working in coffee shops restauaraunts etc have been drinking and making Turkish coffes for a long time and do it very well.

I enjoy Turkish coffee but have not found anywhere here that adds Cardamom to the drink. If anyone knows of anywhere that does this then please let me know.
