Currently on 90 days visa but need to pick up friends in December from Larnaca airport. If we are waiting for our temp residency can we still do this, someone told us that you cant leave the country during this "waiting" period.

There was a thread recently on the same subject. yes you can leave as long as your temporary residency is being processed in Lefkosa.

If you're still within your first '90' day stay it's fine. However, if that has expired and still waiting to be processed at Nicosia for your annual stamp, you cannot leave without being fined. If the latter is the case, you need to go to immigration at Girne Police station and ask for a special piece of paper to allow you to leave without penalty.

Hi

About residency and containers....

You can only obtain an 'exemption from duty certificate' if you are newly arriving and about to take up residency, and used household goods and personal effects then become exempt. Otherwise duty is payable on all imported goods.

.....unless it's changed since Monday !

Cheers

Thanks Jo (I thought that is what you had told me) So, if I have to apply for residency in December when my container is due, then leave the TRNC and do not return 'till April, will I be fined for being out of the country for more than 90 days?

Hmm. At the last count if you were out of the country for more than 90 days it renders your Temporary Visa invalid! And you must start all over again.

BUT check with the powers that be, as that might be changed again.

If you have applied for residency and have to leave the country - tell thepolice. That happened to me, and when I returned I had 90 days stamped on my paper which gave time for me to get the new temp. visa.

Good luck.
