Steady on now - Ask Liz and Gudio - we always pay!! We did have a situation in UK at our local carvery where the food (or lack of it, no vegetables or choice of meat) were not forthcoming. We were not asked if we wanted another drink (which annoyed Irene) more than the lack of food! Or if we wanted to look at the desert menu. We asked to see the manager - who asked how much we had eatern. We were with friends who were staying with us and we said that it was embarassing to have taken them to such a poor restaurant. When we went through all the issues the manager apologised and asked us to give him another chance to show that they could do better - we have never been back since!

Bill About 9 years ago I saw an 'A' board outside a restaurant adjacent to the Girne Castle and behind the old harbour 'claiming' fresh lobster, I was sold! Ordered the lobster and an expensive (then) bottle of wine sitting outside in their garden on a balmy September evening taking in the Castle wall and the general ambience. Having sunk half the bottle of wine an hour later enquired where my dish was. It duly arrived 5 minutes later but the cray/lobster/craw fish was still frozen in the middle and complained. I was told it was fresh before it was frozen! No matter, I offered to pay for the wine but forget the food bill. I got chased out of the restaurant by the owner with a meat cleaver in hand and told never to return. Never did and didn't pay for the wine either! So, when or what is fresh, fresh?! Richard

| I have just been to Sarastro in Covent Garden part of the Niazzi family. Shocking service, we had to ask for a drink every time (we had a few), we had to ask if we could order some food and when it came it was on a tea plate. It was good quality but of little substance. The service charge was optional but included on the bill, I asked them to remove this (first time ever) and I then settled the oustanding amount. The setting was fabulous but the rest didn't live up. The front of house lacked personality and the waitresses preferred to talk amounst themselves. We were two of only 9 people in the restaurant and there was as many staff as us We had a great night out on the West End, wished I'd gone to a tradional pub and only went there because I am coming to Cyprus this week. At £45 per head I thought there would have been a better service and the food more plentiful, we will not recommend or go there again. The restaurants and pubs around Covent Garden were busy, this wasn't, WHY?

Msg 7 Rifat, who owned and ran this restaurant died a few years so maybe things are now not the same as they once used to be when I was frequenting the place. Richard

Thanks Richard, it was shockingly poor. I could have spent half the money and had a great time. Nevertheless, I will be looking to make amends in Cyprus the back end of next week. I'm sure there are plenty of quality restaurants to visit Ian

I only ever refused to pay once. I took a pair of jeans to be taken up at the dry cleaners. It was an 'abortion' the time she had finished. I could have stitched it better myself. She had the cheek to ask for £8. I told her if I can't get it done and the Jeans are ruined she'll owe me a lot more than £8!!
