Dear All,

Cyprus44.com has been down since the early hours of Monday, November 23th. The whole website including our forums was down.

There has been a DDoS attack aimed directly at Cyprus44.

You can learn more DoS attacks here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Denial-of-service_attack

We've now moved the website to a much more powerful server to minimise the risk of DoS attacks in the future.

We'd like to note that Cyprus44 was not hacked and no personal information was disclosed.

Cyprus44 Team

------

Update 26/11/09 1PM:

The IP address (location on the web) of the server changed.

It will take some ISPs upto 48 hours to update their DNS.

So, it is normal that some people still cannot access the website.

No need to panic - those people should wait a little.

Excellent work, as DDosS attacks are illegal, and are likely to reoccur, I believe that we should make some effort to find out who is doing this.

Just spoken to a friend in Lapta and they are still having the same problem with C44 this morning. When trying to log on they get that silly log-in box that wont let you acces the site? Does anyone know of anyone else having the same problem still? Any ideas how to solve it Izzet?

Cheers. G

Are you able to source the 'instigator' of the attack?

Welcome back - lets hope that this is the last outage for a long time.

Mind you it was nice going onto TRNC Villa Owners for a change (it used to be a habit).

I wonder if it was our nice neighbours over the south that caused the problem?

RE message 5

Trying to find the person who started a DD0S attack should be easy....

Just look in the phone book under 'hackers'.

But seriously,

It is a common problem with sites on shared servers and it is unlikely to be directed at Cyprus44 personally.

Glad you got it sorted, it must be a big site to re-load...

Anybody still having problems: -

If using Internet Explorer 8, Click on 'Tools', then 'Delete Browsing history' - this should remove any saved (cached) pages containing error messages. Can't remember what it was on earlier versions of 'IE' - but someone on here will!

If using 'Firefox' it's 'Tools', & then 'Clear Recent History'

Beyond that, you'll have to ask 'samlemine'

Glad am not the only one who thought they'd done something wrong! Most annoying and

though C.44 came back yesterday, I was unable to get on this p.m - got that awful sign-in

thing which doesn't work. Tonight, however, I see it is up and running again. Hope the problem

can be solved, and does not occur again.

Brilliant work from all the backroom boffins on C44! Thought I'd been deemed persona non grata for something or other (but couldn't think what!) and it never occurred that your website had been targeted in this way. I even contacted by email another member who uses another site and asked if he could help me get back but, sadly, didn't hear back. Have only been able to re-connect since 5 pm UK time and was delighted to see things back to normal. Rather like the buzz or hit you get from that first strong cup of coffee in the morning - if you don't get that 'fix' you miss it like crazy! Again, bravo all of you for re-connecting the world to C44 !

Oleander

Assigning a future date to a thread is how a thread is made a 'sticky' and a 'sticky' will remain at the top of the page until the date assigned has arrived and then the thread will take its place date wise with the rest of the threads.

I see. Other websites I've worked with - you just select 'sticky' when as an admin or a mod you post it.

Very interesting! There is nothing wrong here. Try cleaning your temporary internet files. If that doesn't work, please try on another computer. You can also try it on a different browser. I can recommend you try the new Google browser called, Chrome.
