Hi Folks, just had an e-mail from the people managing my property telling me there is a wasps nest outside my bedroom window - one thing I can't cope with is wasps, they sting and I react - badly. Any suggestions on how to get rid of them??? Are there local pest control people who could do it?? Thanks in advance!

hi mary

i've been dealing with wasp's nests for about 15 years - unfortunately i won't be out for another fortnight - can you wait that long? i would need to know the exact location of the nest, ie. in the wall; outside visibly attached to the wall; in the loft etc. in order to know what to bring over with me. all this is assuming that customs will let me bring in my poison!!

We have used Frog Pest Control in Girne for spraying our house and garden to get rid of mossies etc. I am sure they deal with all kinds of pests.

Your local Belediye, like a council or munincipality in the UK will clear the nest and any other cockroach, mosquito and rodent infestation for you.

Morning all, thanks for your replies - useful as ever.

Simbas - I'm not brave enough to try the hoover on the nest but shall keep it in mind - if I can find a volunteer!

Chris - I don't know the exact location, the e-mail just said "outside your bedroom window" Must make more enquiries about it. Am not in Cyprus at the moment so another couple of weeks wouldn't matter, can I e-mail you for more information??

Joandjelly, Infinity - thanks for the contacts much appreciated. Am sure somebody out there will help

If you are going to sort yourself try "malathion Powder" Used it for years to take nests for fishing.

A good squirt around the entrance and they are gone in a few hours.

I am a Pest controller living in Northern Cyprus and would strongly advise you not to try and treat the nest on your own as it is very dangerous. Frog Pest control can deal with it for you.

Rats and mice or cockraoches are ok to deal with as an amateur but I have seen many serious incidents involving wasps.

Please be careful.

Hi The Pestman, to be honest with you I am neither brave enough, nor daft enough to go near a wasps nest voluntarily!

Tried the Belediye but got nowhere fast and so now the lady who looks after my house is in touch with Frog Pest Control for me and hopefully it will be removed before I come out which should be at the end of June.

The rest of the "wildlife" I can handle, those with 8 legs are ones I have to admit I tend to leave to the cats!
