Over at the weekend for a very brief visit, arrived Thursday night when i went to the border to get passport stamped I was told that I had overstayed my visa the last time I was over and would have to wait until the next day or Saturday to get it sorted, I was going home Sunday .

I had been over in July/Aug and went home by the Pyla but for whatever reason the guard did not input my details correctly i was only able to prove that I had gone home when I said, as I was able to tell exactly time/day and who travelled with me that day. In fairness they could have been awkward but we were having a bit of craic with them and this helped. So just be carefully that they input your detail correctly I am going to hold on to the white sheets in future

So over I go to get the paper stamped and the guard starts laughing (with us not at us) and he informs me that there was 2 speeding tickets from the summer and I had to pay before 300YTL - not me I am sure it had to be the Wife

Naas26 have it stamped in your passport then if they don't enter it in the computer the proof is there and not on a piece of white paper in your coat pocket at home

I used to let them stamp paper but now always just straight in the passport, think it should be the norm these days.

Just a word of caution - if you pop back and forth across the 'Green Line' a lot, shopping, sightseenig etc, then your passport will soon get full up - and they're expensive! - The white Visa slips are FREE!

If you're only talking once or twice a year, then you're probably right.

Last time we went across they refused to stamp our passports, they made us use the white papers. It seems to depend on the mood of the day.

I was always under the impression that the only people allowed to stamp your Passport were the immigration @ Ercan & the same @ the docks.

We always keep our white slips of paper inside the passport, that way, they don't get lost.
