6 months today since I had my last cigarette,

I have not used patches or nicotine gum nothing there is even 400 ciggies two blocks unopened in a drawer.

From 40 a day and sometimes more to Zero, no cutting down just cut them out, the strange thing is I did not do it intentionally, one day I realised that I had not smoked for 10 days for no reason at all.

The best part of this is for the last 6 months I have never had a craving or even thought that I needed a smoke.

When I realised I was nicotine free for 10 days I started an exercise plan and changed my eating habits so I have not gained any weight either it has been so easy.

My wife still smokes but that is her choice I think it may be a little hypocritical of me to try to get her to stop, maybe she will if she sees me stay of them longer, I hope so as I feel so much better without them.

Well done Mike, the thing to remember is that if you do have cigs at home it is easier to say NO to then than have no cigs and crave them. I have a friend who stopped the day our youngest son was born and she still carries a pack about to this day as the only time she didn't have the pack she succumbed and had one!

By the way our kid is now 34 years old!

Well done Mike. Gave up for two years - had no problem stopping with the aid of patches, but put on a lot of weight and so stupidly started again.

Perhaps this time I should take a leaf out of your book and devise a new eating/exercise plan

Well done Mike, I quit 2 years ago, smoked for 37 years, at the end I was smoking between 50 and 60 a day. I tried the patches and the gum but still didnt quit, then I tried tablets called Champix and quit 11 days after taking them. I put on weight, but at last it is coming off. I keep 2 fags and a lighter in the box and it sits on my dressing table.

My only complaint about quitting is the fact that I cant stand the smell of smoke, I cant stand the smell in my hair and clothes if I go for a night out, and I hate the fact that i put my husband and son who are non smokers through this smelly haze for years.

Keep it up.

Well done. Just watch out for the festive season, caught me out when I first tried to give up but after a few failed attempts I managed to give up 28 years ago with the help of hypnosis. My Dad, who had smoked heavily for 40+ years, decided if I could do it then he could too. At 62 years old he just stopped!

Already tried the socialising test several times, had a few drinks in the company of smokers and still did not feel that I needed a smoke just because I was drinking or in the company of smokers, did notice that my clothes and skin smelled of smoke though and it was not nice and a lot more noticable than when I was smoking.

Two years on Dec 12th since I had a cig, well pleased with myself, if I'd known how easy it would be I would have done it years ago, mind you the heart attack I had did help me to quit.

Well done Carol, the only reason i packed up was because i always seemed to have a chest infection. It seems it quite often takes a health reason to prompt people to quit, which is crazy really when you think of the damage it does.

I also gave up over 20 years ago, with the help of Hypnotism.

Never fancied one since, and absolutely NO side effects...

Reply re message 11. Hi Lorraine I too gave up 2 years ago after 42 years of smoking with the help of Champix although I had to give the Champix up because of its side effects. I have piled on some weight despite maintaining a good excercise regime, I swim 5 times a week. You say that you are finally losing some of your weight gain. Would love some advice to do the same.

Regards

Hi Jane. Its just coming off on its own, although its slow. I use a treadmill for 30 minutes each day, and a Cross Trainer for 30 minutes every other day. I have to force myself to do it though, I hate exercise, but my job means that I am sitting down all day so I need to move my backside. If you are not overdoing the eating, and eating too many 'bad foods' and you are exercising, just be patient, it will come off on its own, maybe add a couple of brisk walks into your daily activities. I think on average to loose between 1-2lb a week you have to cut your calorie intake down by 200-300 cals a day, and increase your exercise by the same amount.

My weight has always been around 70-73k at my heaviest I went to 85k, now I'm 79 so still a way to go, but I dont fret about it, a bit of weight gain wont kill me, unlike the fags.

regards

Lor

Well done to those of you that have quit, and to those that have tried and started again at least you tied to get rid of your addiction, better luck next time.

As for me I did not intentend to quit infact I have never experienced any coughing, breathlesness or illness through smoking I actually enjoyed my smoking, I just quit and can not explain why.
