if 1 = A and 6 = F and 9 = I thus the letters that correspond to 1966 as an anagram spell FIFA and England won the World Cup as for me I was in liquid form so alas no memories of what it means.

The 1966-67 British Home Championship was the first since England's victory at the World Cup 1966. Naturally, England were favourites for the Championship title.

In the end, the outcome of the entire Championship rested on the final game:

England v Scotland at Wembley Stadium in London on 15 April.

If England won or drew, they would win the Championship;

if Scotland won, they would triumph.

Scotland beat the World Cup winners 3-2.

The match was followed by a large, but relatively harmless,

pitch invasion by the jubilant Scottish fans,

who were quick to jokingly declare Scotland the 'World Champions',

as the game was England's first defeat since winning the World Cup.

My Grandfather died in Ireland in June 66 and I went over aged 11 with my father for the funeral. I stayed on with my gran and uncle till my family came back for the summer holidays.

England had won the world cup and I did not even know it! Not a TV in the village.... life in the slow lane.......I hope we can win it in South Africa.

Many of the World Cup Matches were played in Sheffield which meant the pubs there had licensing hours extended till 11.30pm for 3 weeks so we drove to Sheffield for nights out every night for 3 weeks (no breathaliser then but I didnt drive anyway)

Black is Black by Los Bravos was the number 1 record at the time. (Would that title be allowed now?)

The Beach Boys 'God Only Knows' was the best record of 1966.

I was 18 in 1966 but in those days the age of majority was 21 so I had another 3 years to wait until I could vote, or buy a house, but I wasn't too young to join the army and maybe lose my life!

1966 was 'D' reg for new cars.

Britain had a Labour government in 1966

Television was in black and white and there were 2 channels.

Mainstream radio gave the choice of the Home Service, the Light Programme, and the Third Programme. If you wanted pop music you had to find a pirate radio channel or wait until Radio Luxembourg started at 7pm!

You are welcome.

See me and the Big Yin next weekend, (he has my number), sometime for a coughing up ceremony. Love to see Greg with his mitts in his pouch.

Yes indeed. It is him that I refer to and I do hope that he takes his mitts "oot the pooch" and has a fistful of grubby (hopefully not white) fivers!

Sorry Chris.

It was a typo.

Gawd Chegs you are worse than a lemon squeezer,

Surely there are some more generous people who read this board, or do they prefer to keep their mitts in their pockets ??,

hows about some of the businesses that are not struggling stepping up to the mark, it is for charity after all

£220 raised so far
