Hi All,does anyone know if Girne Belediyesi collects garden rubbish? My friend in Catalkoy says her Belediye does. She lets them know at the office in the village and after a couple of reminders it's cleared. If Girne has this service where do I go to request this service and what is the dept I should ask for(In Turkish if poss!!)

many thanks

Good luck to you, we have been asking for garden rubbish to be cleared for the last three months at least. We live in Ozankoy, and have seen a marked deterioration of the not so clean village since it was"taken over" by Girne Belediye. When are Muhtar was in control, it was better.

Yes would agree with that Ozankoy is a mess since it was taken over by Girne the bin men now only take what is actually in the bin so all sorts of rubbish is piling up next to it. After waiting for 6 years we were so thrilled to have a bin at last we thought the rubbish dump on the corner was a thing of the past - now we have a bin + the rubbish dump!!

Sorry to hear that, bridie and ozankoys ! Not much hope for me then. Now i know why neighbours are dumping their rubbish on an empty plot up the road. At least it's only garden rubbish(so far)they are dumping.Looks like I'll have to do that.Wish I had brought a garden shredder over with me!

I live in Girne and there is open land opposite where everyone dumps their garden rubbish and I don't know if anyone does call the beledieye but within a couple of days it is collected. Maybe just go to the office and enquire, may be better than trying to telephone. good luck

I agree with Denise we have open land opposite and everyone seems to dump their waste on it, but now and again it does get collected, which is good, our garden waste we put into large black bags and then put them in our wheeley bins and they do get taken away with the collection

Thanks smithy,I can do that too but wasn't sure if it was allowed. I tried that in uk and there was a small stick poking thru the bag.Well you'd think I'd committed high treason.Letter from council, visits, threats of my rubbish not being collected any more! Scared me too death !We weren't allowed to burn rubbish in our area either so that's when I bought my shredder and started making compost.

This is the number of the guy who makes the log bricketts from recycled garden waste, it might be worth asking him if he collects.
