Just read that a ferry is going to run between isreal and famagusta that will bting 100,00 isrealie peoples to the north http://www.famagusta-gazette.com/default.asp?. I reckon this will be great for nc economy and also bring a more diverse north cyprus what do you all think

Headlines like this pop up every couple of years if not months. I do not think there is any real behind these news. Called my travel agent a week ago. He knew nothing about it. And the local press says nothing about it. Unfortunately, a 40 min flight to Larnaca is still the only option.

Cafer Curcafer has been trying to get this business adventure of the ground for the last year or so credit loan from the Gov..which was turned down ,looks like hes found backers . Its not in Service but he hopes to get going early 2010 !!

Knowing him ..it will happen

The plan is to ferry isrealies back & forth so they can have a good gamble on the ferry take a few days break in his Hotel the Mimoza which is next to the Salamis Conti.

You may know gambling is not allowed in isreal ca 10 years back or so I used to see them the isrealies arriving via Ercan, in the Famagusta area just for a weekend of gambling they would say " we learn to use machine guns..but are not allowed to have fun & gamble"!!!

Big business...

Jimbo..no anti semitism at all.I was asking what the local Muslim population thought about it.Its not very long ago that I was accused of standing up for Israel over the Gaza War.They do have this thing with Muslims though,been going on for a long time now. My statement about them not liking to part with their money is donkeys years old.No I certainly do not dislike the Israeli nation at all,admire them sometimes for the way they stand up for their country...

aparently 7200 italians are coming next year too via an agreement with an italian travel company,its only a matter of time that NC will become a poular destination for many different countries,i think its a good thing personally,i just hope 10yrs time it wont be ruined like parts of spain etc.

True, they use the Hotels just to sleep then its back on the ferry to play...

They used to do this when they took a flight to Ercan for a 3 day Casino trip booked the Hotel Rooms but never used the rooms spent days in the Casino...

For those of us who have put some time in here and experienced the bad performance of the Israelis in the early nineties , ie , unpaid taxi fares, unpaid restaurant bills, unpaid boat trips, food throwing at evening meals in some of the Hotels, attempting to strip the belly dancer at the Olive Tree Hotel in Catalkoy, and urinating in the swimming pool.

Having seen this "holier than thou" attitude, and being on the receiving end of their arrogance, I think some how this won't happen.

They were stopped coming here, and the aircraft carrying them were turned back to Istanbul.

Yes, there are many wealthy business men, but they hang on to their money, they are not going to give it away here.

I also met some very nice educated Israelis who were ashamed to speak Hebrew, and only spoke Spanish or English here.

As Ismet says, "we will wait and see".

I find it very bad to type cast any race or group, Our first next door neighbours in TRNC are from Israel, wonderful family, They work hard and the my friend holds a very skilled position in one of the quality building companies here, and at the age of 8 their son was described by his teacher whom we happened to meet, as a mathematical genius.

That's a real shame. I can easily imagine this, unfortunately, because I have seen similar things in other places. I am sorry to hear that class of people was attracted by NC casinos. Yes, I am aware of the existence of those lower class social misfits, very small in quantity but quite noisy. You may meet them at some low cost Turkish or Bulgarian all-inclusives. They are an embarrassment to their families and the nation.

Nevertheless, in my many travels overseas, the few Israelis who behaved badly were the sort of people we would not have had anything to do with at home either, and to throw mud at the whole population is pure prejudice.



The problem is that nobody remembers the tourists who are polite and civilized. It's always going to be the obnoxious ones who stand out in people's minds, and as far as the normative Israelis are concerned they can hardly be distinguished at all.

Haven't you read that the Israeli's are investing big money in propertyhere! They have taken over from where the Brits left off (literally). So, it figures it is a right move to come over by ferry from Haifa. London contacts seem to believe it will happen, but they are also expecitng a lot of GC opposition.



I have asked my travel agent for a ticket for the maiden voyage, which is supposed to be in January or February and a 650 passenger ship has already been purchased (so they say).



So, for all of us - wait and see.



As for me, some of my best friends have been, are and probably always be, Jewish! Can';t wait to sail away and meet them instead of the hassle of going to Larnaca.



Final comment to those who have written about some of the representatives of the Israeli nation, as my dear old mother used to say 'There is good and bad in every race.' And I hate to say that some of them are British. Ooops.
