Hi, A friend of mine has come to stay for Xmas and has a UK (Orange) Mobile. This works on Turkcell OK, BUT to make a local call (e.g. an 0533 number) seems to have to dial the full International format of (via Turkey) 0090 533 xxxxxxx. Is this correct? I would have thought (hoped!) he would be able to just dial 0533 xxxxxxx OR 533 xxxxxxx. Sorry, I no expert on phones and sorry if this question a bit basic and I am being a bit thick (nowt new there I can assure you, Hi Hi) - but what is the answer?? Get a local SIM card I suppose? Thanks Geoff

Provided the sim isn't blocked for international calls, ( can be unblocked BEFORE leaving the UK ) and there is a roaming agreement in place, the phone will work Suggest all numbers are stored in +44, +90 format... e.g +44 207 123 6547 or+44161 123 4567 or +90 533 xxxxxx - then - no matter WHERE you are the phone will call... even if in the UK dialling +44 nmbers are only charged as of dialling with the '0' Roaming can be VERY expensive - as 'TRNC' / 'KKTC' is NOT covered by EU legislation on capping of roaming charges. If you intend to make / receive quite a few calls - get a local sim and leave an announcement msg on the UK number with the TR number and leave it off ! ;)

I was in back the UK for a week .. When my Turkcell phone was switched on "Orange" & "O2-uk" depending where we were appeared .. The phone worked perfectly well with all the stored numbers .. 0044 prefix for English nos & 7 digit turkish nos without 0090533 ..

Much cheaper to get a local sim card. We have run up some almighty bills in the past using roaming on Orange. Turkcell to UK landlines is very good.

Well this is the issue. Are calls using the 0090 533 xxxxxxx format charged at the International roamimg rate, or at a (comparatively) cheaper local rate?

Hi Geoff re msg 5 I ASSURE you that if you dial using the +44, +90, +357 format you are charged the local rate if you are in your home country on your home network It is NOT possible to dial ( say) 0044207 456 5789 in the UK.. the call will fail.. THAT.. is why I store all my numbers in the +44, etc format and wherever I am, and what ever sim is installed, I can just dial. Note I store the number on the MEMORY card.. not the phone or sim.. and back it up
