Hi All

This email has just popped up in my inbox, from one of the many websites I must be signed up to. What do you make of this ?

Dear Members, Friends & Supporters of The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus!

The profile of Turkish Cypriots is going to be pretty high over the coming days here in the United Kingdom. At long last our President Mehmet Ali Talat will have a meeting with British Prime Minister Gordon Brown. We would like to thank Ibrahim Dourmoush and the Cyprus Turkish Chamber of Commerce for facilitating the visit.

Our understanding is that Gordon Brown did not actually invite Mehmet Ali Talat over and it is simply because of his coming over on other business that they are effectively utilising a meeting, otherwise a meeting with the British Premier would still not have taken place.

The Greek Cypriot lobby has again been incredibly active and is putting massive pressure on Gordon Brown NOT to meet President Talat at 10 Downing Street. If it was up to

Sorry missed the bottom off....

Christofias there would be no meeting at all, and they are so transfixed on this issue of upgraded status that if the meeting is to go ahead it couldn't possible take place at 10 Downing Street. Embargoed! have prepared a brief letter below, which we would like you to send to Gordon Brown/Foreign Office/David Miliband. Let us stamp out any doubt in the British Government's minds as to how strongly we feel about our EQUALITY. We do not want to be treated more favourably than Greek Cypriots. All we want is to be treated the same.

***********************************************************************************************

send to milibandd@parliament.uk, browng@parliament.uk, stephen.mccormick@fco.gov.uk)

Cut & Paste the text below accordingly.

To his Right Honourable Gordon Brown MP & Prime Minister

I am writing to you concerning the visit of the President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Mehmet Ali Talat who is visiting

contd...

our shores later on this week.

It has been brought to my attention that you are being placed under immense pressure by the Greek Cypriot lobby to ensure that your meeting with the Turkish Cypriot President does not take place at 10 Downing Street.

As a British citizen and someone who is also a Turkish Cypriot do find the constant pressure being applied by the Greek Cypriot administration quite repulsive and often xenophobic. All Turkish Cypriots have ever wanted has been their equal rights - parity with Greek Cypriots.

We showed our goodwill in 2004 and to date very little goodwill has been reciprocated back to us. This is only a very small gesture, but it will mean a lot to the Turkish Cypriot Diaspora, if you treated us as an equal and met our President at your 10 Downing Street residence.

Please treat us equally. That is all we ask.

Cor, wish he was taking Huseyyn Ozgurgun with him. He's the guy who tells it like it is.

I hear the meeting was arranged by the Job Centre so they could swap tips about what to do when they're both out of a job next year.

In the paper today it states that Brownose is taking Mr Talat to his favourite restaurant round the corner from downing street. He has free luncheon vouchers, given to him only a couple of weeks ago by the cousin of Christofias (who just happens to own the restaurant.) Hopefully Mr Talat will join in the Greek custom of smashing plates, preferably over Brownoses head.

Being of a somewhat verbose nature I have added a comment on the World Bulletin net. Don't suppose it will make any difference to anything, but hope it conveys just a little of the thinking of many folk in London and here (plus a few others scattered across Europe.)(Well, when they post it, it says all that!)

And a big Thank you to Jamie for posting a template of the letter which Embargoed! hopes everyone will write so Mr Brown gets the message - 'Give Talat a cuppa at No.10! You beat me to it, Jamie - thanks.

And I am a bit miffed that I won't be in Canterbury when Talat goes to G.A.U, but I got there before him. It was certainly an interesting experience as loads of super British workmen were breaking their everythings to get the building finished all ready for an Inspection by the Men from the Ministry. But I don't know what students they have -p presumably some for Talat to meet! Anyone know anything?

Yea, Jamie, do go and take a look and send me a report. As I say when I was there the builders were finishing up, and then I had a lunch with Dr.Shell - so good old GAU STOOD ME A LUNCH! They had an 'do' the following Monday for the local big wigs, but didn't invite the Vicar. Shame on them.

So where is Jamie - lucky so and so. I would love to come back to that area, but 'para yok.'

As to my comment on the World Bulletin, I guess someone is still tyring to approve it - I was told it would appear, but so far it hasn't. Can't think I said anything 'bad', or 'mad' or 'sad' so....... as they say 'watch this space, but don't hold your breath.

"With political courage and compromise on both sides, these talks have every chance of success.”

G.Brown.

Yes Gordon, but you have no idea what lengths the GC s will go to, or how intransigent they can be.
