If so, what is it like? Is it anything like the soft and light sliced bread we get back in UK (ie Warburtons etc)? I like having a sarnie on sliced bread but the sliced bread in the supermarkets is too heavy for it. Before someone says 'Slice it yourself from the bread they have baked daily' , I do but get a bit sick of it sometimes.

I get Lemars own make, ready sliced loaf. 2tl, white or brown, lovely for sarnies and toast. Its small slices a bit like the small hovis, nice and soft. Keeps great in the freezer for weeks. Worth a try.

Point of interest. When M&S had its branch in Paris, now closed, its largest selling daily product was British slice bread bought predominantly by the French not the expatriates. The French housewives loved it, using it for making packed school lunch sandwiches for their children as it had a shelf life of between 1 and 3 days. Richard

we left a couple of Lemar loaves in our freezer, then went away on holiday for 6wks. Perfect when we came back and you only take out as many slices as needed, so no waste, good eh x

Mike Bells' sliced bread is exactly like Warburtons. I keep a loaf in the freezer and just use a few slices now and again for a cheese and ham toastie, and I use the wholemeal with smoked salmon. I get the ham fron Bells also. But the bread is not cheap - I think 7.5 tl now.

We used to always keep Bell's sliced bread in the freezer, white and brown. Take a few slices out each night for the morning. It used to be Jacksons, not a patch on Warbies but better than they sell now. Haven't bought any for about a month now, go to Ileli supermarket instead and buy fresh. Tony

Its expensive from bells but as people have said you save in the long run as it keeps fresh for a long time. Local sliced 3tl lasts one day, bells 7tl lasts 5 days and really nice for a sandwhich and great for toast. Where is Hurdeniz market...!!!!!

It is expensive from Bells, but sorry to say, it is much better than the local sliced loaves. They seem to be designed for toast, they always have a slightly sweet taste to me when they are toasted, so savory topping doesn't work for me. The crusts are harder than UK. wrapped bread. If a bakery here could reproduce British wrapped bread at around 3TL a large loaf, then I suspect they would make a fortune. I love the local breads too but you can't beat wrapped bread for a sandwich IMO. I would like to recommend the Dano Ciabatta bread. It is excellent & sold by the kilo & it works out very cheap for a large roll. They do a version with olives & one without. They also freeze very well.

Dano's bread is lovely. We buy their brown bread and it's the tastiest brown bread ever. Worth a try.

Go to your local bakery and buy (for 1tl) a 'loaf' of hamur - the unbaked dough. You can freeze it or bung it in the oven to make your own absolutely fresh bread. Makes the house smell wonderful too!

Smithy. I have bought frozen bread in the South from Orphanides in the past. Both Jacksons or Kingsmill. It keeps for up to a week in the original bag on the worktop & is still fresh, even in the summer. It doesn't need toasting & is still good for sarnies. I bought the same, a couple of times from Alphamega & won't ever again. It was stale when it was bought. Rarely go South now though. It's just not worth it.

Mike, In aswer to your questions, "Anyone tried the frozen bread from Bells? .............Yes. "If so, what is it like? Is it anything like the soft and light sliced bread we get back in UK (ie Warburtons etc)? I like having a sarnie on sliced bread but the sliced bread in the supermarkets is too heavy for it." It is exceptionally good bread, especially the Wholemeal, as some of the others above have mentioned. Absolutely ideal for sandwiches. I keep one loaf in the freezer and one in the fridge. Take a couple of slices from the fridge and microwave for 10-20 secs and use. Would comment more but off to make myself a Bells special sandwich.
