Dont go near the roads to Sunny Lane unless you have to - the rain has washed loads of muck and soil and stones down the roads to the roundabout, plus its like a river AND as theres a Xmas do on at Black Olive the sides of the roads are filled with cars and its not easy to get about.

Greetings everyone from a cold but dry West Midlands.

Love to read all the messages, but it would be helpful if instead of saying 'it's raining here' and someone else say 'it's raining here as well' (or similar) can you please identify where 'here' is?

John.

The here is the West side of Girne apparently. Alsancak & Lapta area. It has not rained at all in Catalkoy today. Also apparenty none in Lefkosa this afternoon or in Kayalar. It seems very localised.

At 18.50 Cyprus time, there is still no rain on the East side.

It's the mountains..they draw the clouds in. It's the mystery of nature. Or easily explained by some dull boffin.

I was more swimming home than driving after work. I've never seen something like that in the last 16 years. The short way from the city centre to my home near the Astro supermarket was like a nightmare - so many cars just broke down and could nor go on...

Sorry to hear your parade is being rained on. Sounds as bad as the torrential rains/gales many of us experienced just a week ago here in the UK that led to severe flooding. You're all now experiencing the backlash following on from that very, very hot and long Summer. You have my sympathies - I know its not much fun when the wet stuff comes down your chimneys and onto that best Turkish rug and outside there's nowhere for the water to go. (Mind you, the local F1 teams will be having a field day testing out their aqua-planing, souped-up semi-submersibles! )

You are not far wrong there. We live in the foothills of the mountains in Alsancak and we appear to have our own micro climate. In fact the weather can be so bizarre so much so that we have had torrential rain in the back garden of our villa and you only had to walk around to the front to find it was bone dry.
