Hi Folks

Having experienced repeated power cuts over the last three years, recently the frequency and duration seems to be diminishing on both counts. At present we are not permanently resident in TRNC, but intend increasing residency over the next two years.

With this in mind I am considering purchasing a generator and would welcome

both informed advice as to power cut trend to help decision process and recommendations regarding capable and reliable generators.(4bed villa)

Any assistance much appreaciated.

Power cuts are much reduced, we have a generator but only use it once in a while. If you want to power a house (Less A/C units) you'll need 7.5 kva minimum, add 3 kva for each A/C you want to run.

this place is 20 years behind other countries, have been 3 times and would not buy there. better investments elsewhere i think. not enough water to go around not enough electricity, new houses using generators, me thinks 3rd world or thereabouts.

eager: The fact that it is 20 years behind the rest of Europe is fine by me, lower crime levels, lower cost of living, the friendliness of the people etc more than make up for an occassional power cut or the mains being turned off. Good luck in your hunt for Utopia.

That has upset me slightly, as one of the reasons I chose to buy in TRNC was that I read somewhere it that it was like England 70 years ago!

Not that I was around 70 years ago!

But just imagine, good old fashioned family values, no Yob culture, and no Macdonalds. Wouldn't it be nice to just get out of the 'rat race' and enjoy a simple life.

Anyone remember Spain and Greece 20 years ago before mass commercialisation took over?

25 years ago i worked in Spain and it was my experience there that made me decide to leave blighty at the earliest opportunity, i went back in Jan for the first time, Big mistake, all small towns blended into one, all the UK chains in abundance and the costs , try a 3 bedroom cottage in Javea at 650k GBP!!, sure we have power cuts here(thats what generators are for) and they take the Manana attitude to another whole level, Yeah i think that i'!ve found my own little piece of paradise.

I think what Mr or Mrs Eager have to realise is, that not everyone in TRNC is in it for a quick buck "investment".



I personally am investing because I have been to TRNC twice now in the last two years and have really taken to the place and the people. Along with some reasonable property prices.



I intend to have a place that when i retire, I will be happy with both the place in which i am going to live and the environment in which I live and can afford.



When I first vistited Spain in 1973, although I didn't think so at the time, aged 13, the place was just about un developed, the next 20 years, saw alot of good developement, but now is just rip off land and by the way I love Javea, have spent many great holidays there. If 650k is true, then they can keep it, it wasn't that good.



I like the way of life in TRNC as it is, if that means staying 20 years behind everyone else at the cost of my property not rising in value by x% every year, then so be it, as far as I'm concerned.



Putting the political issues to one side, as I don't think anyone can realisticly predicit that, most economies progress in the western world, TRNC included and with that normally comes, property price growth, so your investment might not grow as quick as some might think, but depends what you want to invest for.



I know that lot is a little "heavy", but thats what a nice bottle of red does for you....sorry.
