Should the greatest formula 1 driver behind Nigel Mansell return to formula one?

Personally i think he should'nt, why risk your life pushing and pushing to be the best when he's already done it in his earlier years. I dont think his lightning quick reactions will be up to speed anymore and god forbid cause him to have a fatality, he is a born racer and will want the 2010 title more than anyone.

What do you reckon, especially you mmmmmm's, you seem to know a bit about F1

Nigel Mansell, and shoemaker ???? The greatest ???? what about Jim clark, The only man to win f1 and the indy back to back. Then to cap it all, the world sports car championship, all with lotus and done on a shoe string by the greatest ever car designer to this day, Colin Chapman.

Umm, Mansell won indy and F1 back to back, no doubt about Jim Clark being a great driver, but it was all a bit slower in them days

Ah yes, maybe a bit slower, but with no gadgets, they had to be a lot more skillfull. Yes mansell did the double, but not the treble, never won the sports car championship. Also, Jim clark was never too much of a fat bas##rd to fit in a car on his return to F1, remember??. I will give mansell this.... he was one of the few to get to the top on his own steam, sold his house to finance his hard earned rise to the top from a humble lab tech job, bless him.

The cars of that time were a lot more slower so if you did make a mistake you had a lot more time to correct it, almost like a rally car, one mistake in a top F1 car today and your off, unlesss your lightning quick such as the likes off mansell were able to do. Who knows what Jim Clark would have been like in a modern day car, a lot quicker thats for sure, we will never know, unlike Mansell that we do know. Vroom Vroom..

Another point is, the twin turbo cars of the late 70s and the 80s were a lot faster than the F1 cars now, yet they didnt have the gismos that todays have. So you have to hand it to those drivers who had to work a lot harder than todays softies. My cousin worked for the hesketh team in the 70s, and I had the honour of meeting one of my heros more than a few times, James Hunt, what a guy. He once said to me " I am no great driver, what helped me was, going to the right school, and being in a rush to get to the after race party" how goods that?.

I find it hard to believe that the cars of the seventies and eighties were faster than todays, how is it all the lap records around the worlds F1 circuits are held more or less by todays drivers..I know circuits change etc but still find that difficult to believe, ive been known to be wrong thou on quite a few occasions.

They were!. Thats why they brought in standard engines, they were getting too (not to dutch) bloody fast. And if you crashed in those days, you were a gonner, not like today.
