I went to the Library today, 5 minutes before closing time, as usual, and one of the books I took back was Michael Palin's 'Himalaya'.

After a quick whiz-round (6 books in 4 minutes!) I arrived back at the desk to find them discussing Michael Palin...

"It's such a shame" said the lady doing the 'check-out' - "What?" says I

"Well, dying like that, two weeks ago, he wasn't very old you know - I think it was cancer" she replied.

"Bloody Hell !" I thought, he's younger than me!"

"I never saw anything about it" - this from one of the other ladies

"Oh, yes" said the first one, "I saw it in the Mail", and then added "I used to like it when he had a little drink, did a bit more cooking, and then had another little drink"

We all looked at each other, trying to reconcile this view of Michael Palin with our own memories...

Finally another lady said "But that was Keith Floyd!"

Pause...

"Oh yes" said the first one "So it was..."

Barely suppressed merriment...

So - What a shame about Kei

RE msg 1, KC: I want to read the rest of the message! I had the privilege to meet Mr. Michael Palin (who has the misfortune to share his surname with that Alaskian witch Sarah Palin) twice. Once in Amsterdam during a great lecture and once while he was working on his documentary "Around the world in 80 days". What an outstanding Brit!

Hans,

It only read: -

So - What a shame about Keith Floyd then!

Michael Palin is, so far as I know, alive and well...

Phew. My heart almost sank then. Met Michael Palin in Australia! Fab bloke. The kind you would have to sit with you at dinner and just listen! Glad he is still alive.

Just shows how nasty rumours can be spread and become fact before you know it. But Cyprus is almost famous for that! Innit?

I know I might be sounding a bit thick here, but has anyone actually died out of the two of them?

Yes p- on 15th September 09, Keith Floyd died aged 65! Look it up on the web and you will see several references. Rotten shame. Didn't realise he was that old , - rotten shame for him.

keithcaley - I thought your illustration of 'mistaken identity" amusing and not at all offensive.

I think Michael Palin is a great bloke; educated, intelligent and and an all-round gent.

Sorry snakes - didn't really take to Keith Floyd - but, a great entertainer!
