A 98 year old lady has been charged in Massachusetts with 2nd degree murder after she allegedly murdered her 100 year old room mate by placing a carrier bag over her head.

My opinion is that nothing would be achieved by taking her to court as it will probably be enough punishment for her in the cold light of day knowing what she has done.

She is not mentally responsible. She should be kept under close watch not to repeat it.

Nurseawful..Probably thought she was playing some sort of game.My wife is care manager and says she was probably suffering from alzheimers, and you ought to no what that means. She has several ladies of that age in her home and you would not believe some of the things they do when they have that disease. It would serve no purpose whatsoever to bring her to trial..

Probably ..... possibly.... might be..... you don't know the facts. Neither do I. And I'm not making judgements or presupposing. This is just what brings this forum down. Rumour mongering, scaremongering and downright misinformation. If what you have to say isn't a sensible question or or a valid and sensible reply please keep it to yourself.

Rant over.

Re message 5

The old lady allegedly has a history of dementia according to the Boston Times. But the victims son said he always found her very lucid in the year she had been rooming with his mum. He feels no malice towards her and pity's her as she will have to live with this.

I think you do have to pity her, but also you have to feel sad for the family who have lost their Mother

but if she had dementia she wouldnt have know what was happening

If she is mentally fit, she must face a trial. Then let the whatever system they have, decide her fate. She could be found guilty but face a "nominal" sentence.

Otherwise, who will make the decision for her not to stand trial?
