Think first before considering sending cards. This question was asked on another forum on yahoo and this was the response;

To reiterate the previous answer...PLEASE DON'T. The BFPO postal service is at full capacity supplying the family mail. The MOD are saying that the best thing you can do is contribute to their fund for the purchase of electrical goodies for the troops in theatre (portable DVD players, PSP's, etc). In that way the troops get what they really need and appreciate.

This may not be what you like to hear, but I work with the British Army in Germany and this is what the MOD are telling us.

The families have been asked not to get carried away with mail in order to ensure there is enough transport for vital supplies. Yours is a kind thought, but please leave the limited mail capacity to those of us who have someone we love serving.

everon. Sorry, thought you meant post. I'll have a look on the MOD website to see if there is a link.

Nursey - they do get to look at their email now and then, so if you know an individual email address you can send a card from one of the various websites. If you want to send a general message, why not send it to an address you know and say i.e. "To Bill and all his mates".

No 1 is correct, the forces postal staff have a frantic time around Christmas, so ecards are a much better idea.

I have sent one to my Son in Afghanistan.

RE msg 13, everon: (...) I send e-cards all the time and receive them, at least you get them they dont 'get lost' x (...)

=> Be careful sending e-Cards obtained from the Internet. Many official email addresses reject or bounce them, being afraid of the now wide-spread virus etc infected e-Cards.

just had a word with a relative in the Logistics Corp, messages from Family and close friends only and that is it as the system gets heavily congested as it is.

I asked the question about e-cards and he replied if you have the personal e-mail address of a serviceman/woman then of course you can send e-cards as some of the service personel have access to email out there, but there is no general email addy to send e-cards to as how would they distribute them or display them?

Msg 14 Hans is right we accept no e-cards on personal or business addresses; if you have sent us one I would not know.

As it is the number of emails we get which have to be checked (in case the filters are wrong) and then deleted is high - today was a low day and I have had to delete 597 from the basic systems. It is a huge waste of time but has to be done as I always dread a client needing assistance and it dropping into spam so their not being helped in the hour of need.

This is why we often use blind copies when sending emials and we always ask anyone to contact us off board if they want flights, car hire, insurance or anything else (it is their privacy and security I want to protect).

On another thought re forces in war zones

I would not be surprised if the forces / MOD system filters the e-cards rather like on the nuclear deterent submarines where they are only allowed the good news while on patrol.
