Is it a time for reflection on the past year. Or perhaps a chance to spend some time with your children and grandchildren. Or something else?

Until 20.00 on Christmas Eve it is just stress, after that I can relax and enjoy time with family and friends and be thankful for all the good things in life especially our wonderful healthy grandchildren. New years eve is when I reflect on times gone by and no matter how much I try not to always blubber in the New Year.

Anyway can I take this opportunity to wish everyone on the Forum a very happy Christmas and a healthy wealthy New Year.

I wish you and Guido the same Liz. Look forward to seeing you both in 2010 to savour your culinary delights!

assuming jesus was born on the 24 or 25 th december and we started to count from day zero.. what has happend to the days inbetween christmas and new year??? new year is the day zero.. or am I wrong?

Christmas means to me nothing but a loss of 7 days and a lack of explanation (from the chruch??).. Christmas should be named as "mandatory family get together day" short: MFGT Day - and then the new year can stay as it is.. - as day zero - jesus birth.. If not, I see a serious problem for one of these days.. either new year needs to be cancelled or moved (a few days backwards) or christmas eve needs to cancelled (or moved to the front).. This is the only sollution I see not to lose ONE of our free holidays!!

But pssst.. Dont tell anyone.. We want to keep or workfree "holy days"..

Have fun

Phil, and a nice chunk of Stilton! Although I read once that a nice Montgomery cheddar goes down well with Port!

Xmas means nothing to me, now if you are really talking about Christmas Day, that's a different story ;-)

Sadly it is a good thing to avoid nowadays as it has become increasingly commercialized and materialistic. The marketers have hijacked it. Good if you have young children I guess and if it finally snows on Xmas day, I'll miss that being still a child at heart..

A chance to reflect on the events of the past year; to be thankful for all the good things that have happened to one's self and nearest and dearest, to make the annual pilgrimage to church, and to contemplate that the universe might just have been created by someone a wee bit more clever and less arrogant than man.

Merry Christmas one and all.
