It is typical of the TRNC that this farce has even come to court. This builder is a rogue, and has persistently demanded a final payment, although he has no intention of finishing Geoff and Mary's house.

This sort of action on the part of the builder and the authorities is but one example of why I chose to leave the country.

I wish I could be there to give them my support at the court.

I am so sorry that I cannlot be there. I would but have to go to Famagusta. My heart bleeds for them, but let's hope that the message from the judge on the 25th fits in with the message of that date to the world.

Why do I somehow doubt it - naughty me.

As to leaving the country, dear Kaiserphil, a lot of us would but can't. Para yok!

Marie, I was lucky enough to be able to sell my house, albeit the protracted sale was a nightmare. That also resulted in a number of court appearances, as a result of an apparent attempted fraud. I had to pay for the court appearances, as my buyer would not pay.

I think it unlikely that I would have found another (genuine) buyer!

msg 6.

I obviously have no idea what you are talking about and unless you wish to expound your knowledge so we all know what you are trying to say, I am going to the court to support a person who may be thrown out of the country and or sent to jail.

Other than that anything else I know is from a reliable source.

This is a disgrace. I have just read the article. How can the authorities treat people this way?

Those poor people, my heart goes out to them.

I just hope that justice prevails. xxx

I will be thinking of them on Tuesday and keeping everything crossed for the Judge to make a sensible decision and kick this builder into touch.

Problem is that it depends on who the judge is.

Like anywhere in world each judge has preferences to what he is presented with.

So if he likes the couple, no problem. If he hates foreigners, the hangman will be waiting.

So get along and shout for justice.

I understand the anger of people at the system when they see injustice. I hear of so many wrong things that I get upset on a regular basis.

Three young cashier girls working for Lemar, Famagusta branch were sacked on suspicion of theft over three years ago. They were all questioned by the police and their i.d. cards were retained and banned from leaving the country. They deny any wrong doing. Three years on and they have not been formally charged yet. Every time they want to go to Turkey they have to apply to court for permission which costs them money. When they apply for a job, they are asked to show their i.d. cards and when they say that the police have got it, they say good bye to another employment opportunity.

Numerous applications to judges to get their i.d. cards back has not yielded any results. The attorney promises to speed up their case and the judges refrain from taking radical action and order their i.d. cards back. Each time the police is given a never ending last chance to bring the case to court. The truth of the matter is that they have no clue how to stick any charges on them and finally hope that they will despair and admit to being guilty. What can I say? If I was their advocate, probably I would bang my fist on the bench and get sent to prison myself. Sometimes I feel like a rebel.

This case is really indicative of the way things are stacked against the ex-pat community here. How many

so called Builders, Advocates, Estate Agents, etc, with much greater known criminal activities, have been subjected to this type of justice. Me thnks none! Similar is some respects to Jez the hairdresser, use of a massive sledgehammer to crack a walnut. As I've said before, in terms of police, judiciary and positions of power, this place is rotten to the core. Shameless!

We will be thinking of you on the 22nd. If there is any justice in this world the court will find in your favour.

I have been on some of the mass meetings here and the one thing that you must be aware of -

THIS IS NOT A PROTEST.

any indication that it is anything other than support for these poor people may result in action by the authorities.

I am sure you will be allowed in as long as you are all quiet. Any sign of a 'protest' and there will be problems as ex pats are not allowed to 'demonstrate', but I am sure that Geoff and Mary will feel upheld by the presence of fellowcountrymen who care.

Wish I could be there to lend support and to get the story out, but unfortunately I cannot. If someone likes to tell me all about it afterwards, I would be VERY interested.

So, if anyone goes and would like to meet me on Wednesday, I would be happy to do so.

Chin up Geoff and Mary.

Whatever the outcome of this travesty of 'justice', the British and, if possible, other foreign media should be alerted ASAP.

The court is the place where all the evidence is evaluated and its wrong for us to speculate on the outcome. However, I do not approve the way the police delays matters unnecessarrily because that is injustice in itself. If the accused does not normally live here, the injustice is multipled by several factors.

I am also very suspicious about delays by the police. I suspect that if the evidence is not very strong they tend to postpone it rather than admit to their mistake and withdraw it as soon as possible. A withdrawal requires the permission of Chief Attorney and this may explain why cases are dragged on for so long. We really need to reform the system very badly.

If the accused is a poor helpless person, the chances of harsh handling by the police (to put it very lightly) is higher.

Finally I wish good luck to Geoff and Mary and hope that their ordeal ends today.

Surprise, surprise! Presume that is because the police are aware that it is a fit-up for their friend the builder, and really have no evidence?

A bit surprised at msg 33, I do not call SEVEN a good turn out especially after all the comments here.

MSG 37, it is actually quite positive news Mary will relate herself later. Plus she now has your details and will contact later.

We got there at 9.15. Just after 11.00 they were told to come back at 2pm.

We returned for just before 2 and they were called in about 2.15. Mary will detail later.

A good event happened this pm, an appearance was due of 4 drugs smugglers so loads of press about. Because the police were late one of the press members picked up on Geoff and Mary stood around. Mostly Turkish press and they were amazed at the story of idiocy about this case. So anyone read the Turkish and Cypriot dailys look out for a possibly interesting story.

All back again on 20th Jan for a hopefully positive outcome

Hector, yes I do know but as stated above so that the full and correct info is passed over, Mary will post herself. No doubt after several lemonades.

All I will say is that this postponement was given and in criminal terms should turn out better for Geoff who is the one that is charged.

Geoff's passport is impounded.

secretcove, apologies. It is a shame that so many people spend so much time and expend so much CO2 on the forums but when asked to turn out for a couple of hours to help................. If there had been 30 or 40 people there this pm when the Turkish Mainland press were present I think there really could have been a difference made to the thinking of the press. As it is, another opportunity lost through apathy.

Back to Geoff and Mary. they still need support so look out for details of next appearance and get along, that is the only way we can effect change in a system that is at best flawed.

I have been thinking about them all day and waiting for the outcome, though being here in Northern Ireland I could not be there at the court.

As has always been said... 'You can't go back to do it' Someday we may ALL need help and support and if we do not give it, how can we expect to recieve it ?

Best of Luck to them and hopefully RIGHT will win out.
