I spoke to someone from the dark side and he told me that the economic situation is now vey bad there and deteriorating. He spoke of many unemployed and long queues at employment offices. Apparently workers from Romania and Poland are working at half the normal wage and thus the locals are becoming unemployed at their expense. Knowing the fanaticism of the Greek Cypriots, I expect big trouble over there soon. Another couple of months and we can expect big riots.

It's the foreign workers I feel sorry for if the Greek Cypriots kick off. They will be victimised for sure. The Greeks and Greek Cypriots are the most racist people in the world and thats a fact.

Like Cyprus, Greece should never have been allowed to join EU, especially when one considers that it was given preference to a productive country like Romania. Was it because of historically 'royal connections'?

I suspect so!

The cost of taking a holiday in any Eurozone country is so astronomical in terms of 'value for money', that both Greece and Cyprus, both with a 'rip off the tourist' mentality, will continue to suffer an increasing downturn in their number one industry - tourism.

Meanwhile, Turkey will be benefitting from increasing tourist numbers - mainly from previously disenchanted holidaymakers who used to go annually to Greece and Cyprus. And why? because Turkey currently offers good value for money and offers SERVICE - unlike the lackadaisical Greeks and Cypriots.

The Geeks are historically known for their aggression, they will turn on their own as well.

Indeed, they made recently a survey in the EU zone and guess what they found: the GC are the most racist and most religious fanatical people in all the Eurozone. Will they accept this and try to change? Impossible. They have no vision. And they are too rich (well, maybe now no so much. And his can help them to have more reallistic points of view about life).

The problem of immigrant workers working for less than the minimum wage is widespread throught Europe. I blame the 'employers' of these people.

Bill, message 8. Absolutely agree; this is a huge problem and I can only see it getting worse. Spent a night in an hotel recently for a reunion and I would say 99% of the staff were Eastern European. They were charming but we did all notice that they seemed to work extremely long shifts.

Msg 3 and 6 - let them turn on their own! As long as they then dont turn on us in the north. Let the world/EU see that maybe they were the agressors before! That they arent the peace lovingpeople they try and make everyone believe.

If it wasn't for migrant workers, life & commerce could grind to a halt. Look at Turkish workers in NC, eastern europeans in the UK, mexicans in the US, asians in Dubai etc etc. They tend to do the jobs that locals don't want. Where would the NHS & London Underground be today without migrants back in the 50's?

And New Labour has done so much to curb immigration, provide 'British jobs for British workers', cut the welfare bill...
