My best christmas were as a little boy watching wizard of oz and scrooge with Albert finney. Presents and stockings filled with sweets ahh those were the days. Still I do like xmas in Cyprus its so quiet here so we have to make the most of it and make it more christmassy. Like the fact that I can go shopping in the supermarket and not get swamped by idiots buying 2 weeks worth of shopping for only 2 days.

My first christmas in cyprus (trnc), I didn't have to work through the night doing floristry, actually spent Christmas eve with my family, and stayed awake during Chrismas day, and enjoyed it was a bonus too.

My daughter is 30 years old, that was our first proper 'family Christmas'

Loved Christmas when I was very young - not much in the way of presents, as little money in those days (50's). But, what I do remember was treats. You know, all the things we take for granted now that we never saw until Christmas. In our house it was booze (my dear old Dad with a couple of crates of beer and a bottle of scotch, paid for out of his Christmas club) a Capon (can't buy those any more), fruit, nuts, dates (that no bugger ate) etc. etc. To me, there is nothing special any more about Christmas. All we do is buy more of what we buy all year round. I loved Christmas when our son was little; he is in Australia (again) this year and so it will be a very quiet time for us.

Having said that, I would like to wish you all a Very Happy Christmas and a Very Happy and Healthy New Year.

For me it was in ireland to wake up to a stocking with an orange a some new pennies. just being together as family. We were 7 kids now 3. Then off to mass to get the meaning of xmas. When in uk i went overboard every year buying everything only to see my grandkids playing with the boxes xxx

Liz - had almost forgotten the orange and shiny pennies - and, to be honest, not much else. But, always a good dinner on the table (both days), a lovely coal fire and the place all clean and shiny (quite unusual - my old mum wasn't what you could call houseproud!). I thinki we all take too much for granted these days; my son, as you know, is in Australia (again) and our 20 year old nephew is skiing in America with his girlfiend and her family this Christmas.

Never mind, Lizzie drip - our day will come!!

Lots of love

All my Christmas's as a child were super, my mum made them all so special so I guess I was very lucky.

My brother and I always had one new toy each at Christmas, we would then fight over which one we were going to play first while mum was busy cooking the dinner and slowly getting redder and redder in the face, she used to say it was doing the cooking but we found out as we got older it was the sherry she was secretly drinking!!

We got excited opening 'simple' presents ie blood oranges nowadays I don't think it would go down to well if you only spent a few quid on kids.

I thought my worse Christmas was going to be about 12 years ago when I was made redundant on the 18 December, I said to all my family that I couldn't justify buying pressies and I didn't want any in return however we did buy presents but kept the limit to £5 and we all agreed that we had more fun that Christmas deciding what to buy within our budget than we had ever had before.

Happy, funny and exhausting Christmas's were when our children opened their presents on our bed, snowing outside, coal fire ,loads of food.

The worst, our first Christmas here,we had the flu,the house was so cold we ended up in the bedroom ,[smallest room]with an electric fire,to ill to go shopping,no internet, didn't know anyone.

The most memorable was when i worked voluntary in our local hospice. There on Christmas day,on finishing my shift i went home feeling very humble and since then material things don't mean anything to me now,it's your family and friends who are important and your health.

Merry Christmas Everyone, lets try and be kind to folks out here in 2010

Christmas's usually started with me doing Night shift in the ward, dressing up as Mother Christmas with my elves and visiting the other wards. Used to sneak round so that the cameras couldn't get me and give security and the porters a laugh. Arriving home about 7.30 am going to bed until 11am getting up opening my pressies, hubby making breakfast and them getting ready to go out for Christmas dinner.

And at one time we could give the patients a drink and their relatives and friends on the wards, sadly no longer the case.

As a child selection boxes, nurses uniforms (yes even then) a knitting set and the stocking with the orange and apple and pennies.

Merry Christmas all wherever you are have a wonderful time.

Message 15. Please accept my apologies - I should have perhaps said 'Capons are not widely available'.

My further apologies for the use of the word 'bugger'. It was not my intention to offend your sensibilities.

Worst, 1965/66 Christmas in the mud and mossies of Borneo. Best, last year, first real Christmas on our own in the place we love - waited years for it to happen now it will happen every year.

I am hoping this will be best Christmas ever as all my sons, daughter and partner, daughter-in-law and

two grandchildren will be having Christmas dinner together.

Worst one is too painful to speak of, but even then there were good things.
