Have just watched (OK a bit of an epic) three hours of Victoria Wood; interviews, clips from old shows, etc. I must admit to being her No.1 fan. Have seen her stage show on several occasions. Is anyone else a fan and, if not, who do you consider a great comedian/comedienne?

Just a bit of Christmas cheer (hopefully) for us all, remembering our favourites.

I watched the long prgrm. too last night and was impressed. Hadn't really seen much of her lately

but she is very talented, and it was good to see the sketches she wrote for others like Julie Walters

One of the best nights out was watching Victoria Wood live - I thought I would never breathe again I was laughing so much. Even Him indoors laughed like a drain

Have been watching our DVD's of Porridge and Open All Hours, great fun but I bet they couldn't get away with half of it now!

I watched this last night, it was great, I wouldn't have put Victoria Wood down as being shy though.

Nice one. Two grammatical errors in three words. Well you made me laugh anyway.

I really liked her shows. Rare to see a woman who can be funny, clever and sometimes

gorgeous! She comes across as likeable and unselfish.

phylray. Yes, I agree with you. I think she writes in a very unselfish way, too.

If you haven't already done so, and get the chance, go and see her performing live. As booitsme has already said, it's hysterical. Trouble is, you're laughing so much, you can very easily miss what she's saying.

Sam - thanks for that. She cracks me up every time, no matter how often I have seen certain sketches, episodes of Acorn Antiques, etc. I think she's great

Just to say, this evening we watched the first Victoria Wood TV show for many years and I have to say, as one of her biggest fans, it was a huge disappointment. The only good bit was at the end, when it was a re-vamp of "Let's Do It".

I feel a complete idiot now, for singing her praises

Still, we have bought tickets for Peter Kaye at the O2 for next November - fingers crossed for that one.

Her comeback 'sketches' show last night (24/12) was a huge disappointment. She'd originally been promised a Christmas Day slot by the BBC and was reported to be 'miffed' that it was going out on 24th instead. She'd obviously worked very hard to produce those series of linked sketches but her subject choices were poor. Only 2 redeeming features were her own appearances as Margaret (of the Apprentice) in a mimed dance act and of course, an updated version of her best ever sung skit - 'Let's Do It.' The comedy is still there - just the format and content choice was off. Pity......

Jeannie,

I have watched 'Dinner Ladies' more times than I care to count - and I still laugh at all the right places - I think that the anticipation makes it worse (or better?), a bit like Tommy Cooper...

No one can be perfect all the time, and when you build someone up too much, it's always a huge let-down when they don't live up to it on occasion

Come-backs can be disastrous affairs, as anyone who watched Hancock's abortive attempt will remember, yet there is no denying his comic genius, is there?

Stay faithful to your favourites, they will continue to give you pleasure in the years to come, and the best of it is, when you get old enough, it will all seem like... NEW !
