Well as the bike sales are terribly slow in winter I thought about bringing in cast iron wood burners I have the contacts in China already set up and very good prices but I do not want to commit to a container ful until I know there is some interest out there for them. They would be too late for this winter but if enough people interested I could arrange a container for september next year and every body could benefit from a sort of cooperative let me know your thoughts any interested parties

Well,I have a wood burner, made in Turkey, cost me around £150 ,it has oven and cooking facilities and been using it for the second winter now.

All fine Mike, enjoying the beautiful winter here.

You can find them almost in all builder merchants or go to ten pin alley in girne, they sell them there as well.

So easy to fit, give me a shout,I'll give you a hand.

Have A LOVELY CHRISTMAS

message 18 Wow 150 quid for a oven, cooker and heater that is really really cheap where can I get one as buying a full container from the cheapest manufacturers in China I could not get any where near that price and the quote I had from turkish producers were a lot higher than the Chinese and it can't be the import duty as that was quite reasonable according to my commision agent in customs and the prices in the shops in TRNC are from £400 upwards so can you give me the name of your supplier for the £150 stove over here

Hi no I don't at the moment but I am sure that at the end of the season there plenty of chefs around who turn magically in to builders ,plumber, electricians etc .The idea was to get enough interested parties so we could order a container ful and make the really cheap for every body but Yorgozlu seems to of spiked my idea on that by saying he can buy them from turkey for £150 but if it does come off I am sure we can find a suitable builder that we can all use and get the best quality fitter for the best price

re msg 23;

Nothing wrong in trying to support the locals,or is there?????

If you need an address to come and view, let me know, can come and see it any evening whilst running and cooking at same time.It is not cast iron but then again whats the big deal with cast iron?

re msg25;

No,I did not "spiked" your idea, dont need to,dont have to.By the way, those are Cyprus prices, they would be cheaper in Turkey.

How about trying to bring those over?????????

We bought a local wood burner last week, no oven, but could boil a kettle or keep coffee hot on top - it goes like a bomb - very pleased with it. Yapi next to Lapta PO -340 plus 100 to man putting it in, making hole for chimney, repainting wall and clearing up. Lira by the way.,

I think the local models they refer to are the standard brown ones that are not cast iron but still work well and are available from many Yapi markets and in Tin pan alley in Girne.

I put in the basic round one for about 120 TL last year with chimmeny sections and there is a full oven version with a few hotplate section on top for I think about 100 TL more. I just ran the chimmeny up the existing fireplace.

These stoves however aren't as durable as cast iron and have no glass fronts etc so that you can't see the fire and aren't as attractive.

Am I right in assuming the back boiler you mentioned on the Chinese cast Iron stoves will be able to be fitted to the standard solar hot water systems here to heat the water in winter as this would be a significant saving on electricity costs for the electric booster ?

Hi ausie far as I know and I am not a plumber yes the back boiler they can be used to heat your normal hot water supply and depending the KW output one would assume that it would heat radiators as well provided the right equipment is fitted IE pump non return valves etc but I think proper advice from a qualified plumber would be advisable if you have an email address I will send the photo's and specs anyway

Message 29 Aussie I think that must be the same type that Tolgas has in his restaurant when we go down for the quiz night on Tuesdays it seems he wheels it in at the end of October actually lights it mid december and takes it back out in February it seems ok if you are close to it but does not radiate the heat like a cast iron one but then again at the price you are saying it good value for money

Thanks to all of you who has shown an interest in the cast iron wood burners ,if I can clear up a few points from from interested parties

1)I am not a heating engineer

2) I do not install these wood burners but I am sure that if there was enough people interested we could all benefit from getting one good tradesman to do the jon it's not difficult

3)I cannot supply flue pipes but these are available locally

4)I am not really doing this as a business when I first posted the idea on this forum it was to get 20-30 people interested so we could all benefit from a good price direct from the manufacturer.

5)Until I know what model of burners each person wants it is difficult to get an exact price as I have to order a min of 5 of each model and take at least 40 units.

6)As all manufacturers require usually a 30% deposit with order and the balance when the goods are ready for shipment.I would have to a commitment from all who want to buy tel 05338711176 afternoon if you want more info

A few important points, Fitting a wood or multifuel burner. The job should be done by an expert, The choice of stove should be confirmed by an expert. Most importantly the flue pipe.

I could give you info on this subject chapter and verse, but it would take to long on the Forum.

Without going into detail you should be aware of the angle of bends, the amount of bends etc. Steel pipe must be either double skin or built around (protected from the elements,) these are just a few pointers,

We had a dreadful house fire in the UK caused by our Log burner, That had been fitted 18 years previously. and it was down to the fact that the company who fitted it had not done the correct thing at the time.

Then my wife and I suffered severe carbon monoxide in a rental property in Karmi from a badly built chimmney.

Most chimmneys here are cosmetic, and not desinged correctly.

If you do not do the job correctly, you are putting lives at risk FACT.

We have a log burner in our villa in Baspinar, as far as i am aware one of very few on the island, It as Back boiler, it as cost us an awful lot of money to get this system sorted and running, lots of ifs, and buts and trials.

But now it works very well'

We have done this for the long term, Our Log burner is linked into our central heating, it was alot of trial and error on our part and a skilled heating engineer to design the system with me.

It would also heat our water if I wanted to go that extra bit. Approx 70% of the heat goes to the back boiler, So basically instead of wasting all of the heat up the flue, it warms the rest of the house, and also dont mean that one room is like an oven.

I still have a couple of small adjustments to make. As far as I am aware from the gentlemen who supplied our stove He does not know of anyone on the North side who can do this work.

It is straight forward with an olderstyle heating system, but not with modern Combi Boilers

My advice is, if you are having any kind of Fossil Fuel appliance fitted, You must get expert advice, After we had suffered Carbon Monoxide poisoning, I an sure that I read on the internet that It is responsible for more deaths worlwide than Maleria

The amazing part was that so many people you speak to only think you get Carbon Monoxide from cars.

To the best of my knowledge, Anything that burns,

The worst situation is when a fire or barbecue is glowing and not giving off smoke, and it looks nice and clean and clear Thats when it can catch you out

Don,t want to dampen anyones parade just a few very important tips.
