Hi all,

Before i splash out on more money on the apartment i wondered if fly screens stop all bugs getting in particularly my friend the sand fly,

Paul.

Hi Paul, my screens used to stop everything but the dreaded sandfly! There may be screens that will though.

Kaiser,

My new years resolution for 2010 is to invent a screen that stops the sand fly from invading peoples properties,

Paul.

Sandflies were imported from the UK (in 1878) by the British colonial rulers to annoy the locals. But they turned against their masters - like the locals.

our fly screens keep out most bugs ,also save a lot of dust from getting in .

mostly it allows for us as its top floor the air (if any lol) to circulate around

We had our fly screens put in a couple of years ago and they are really good. Mr Fly did ours and made a pretty good job. We decided to have fly screens after our youngest grandchild nearly got eaten by the sand flies! Nothing gets in now, just the fresh air, it also helps keep the dust out..............

We wouldn't be without ours.

Okay the occasional mossie gets in through pure determination to beat all my traps, but that is only because you open doors but I spray our bedroom at night, shut the doors and windows then after an hour open the windows and generally have a peaceful night of sleep without being dive bombed and zapped all night.

Also learned from this forum that cockroach spray is good for sandflies and spray this every 3 - 4 days and for the first time in 6 years I had a wonderful summer of very few bites .... heaven!

Newlad: Spray all around the inside of window frames and doors with a ('Permithrin' based) cockroach spray. Also, spray the mossie screens - it's actually better if they're dusty, cos the spray sticks on better.

With the super weather we've just been experiencing in TRNC, the mossies have become active again - we blatted two in the bedroom last night - 23rd December! Fortunately, they're a bit slower, but heat from downstairs rises, making a two storey house warmer upstairs. The mossies come in when we leave patio doors, etc., open - they then stay dormant until the interior warmth of the house re-activates them. Again fortunately, the intensity of their bite isn't nearly so severe as in summertime - but still bloody annoying!

we have had fly screens for some time.

I suggest if you have them fitted you go to a man who knows what hes doing.

I had mine from Matt, as did a lot of my friends they have been great, he will try to accomodate the most awkward of shaped windows and doors. Give him a call
