Love the Queen classic, but would anyone really want to live forever. I personally think it would be my worst nightmare. Too maudling to go into but would anyone else want too?

Sorry not a cheery Xmas thought but would like some thoughts on the pros and cons of eternal life without biting necks. Just a thought after a few wines.

I wouldn't want too.

I think if we all lived forever, we wouldn't achieve, or try to achieve as much or anything in our life because we wouldn't have a time span to do it in. Knowing that one day we will die makes us strive to do something with our lives before its too late.

I'll gladly die for my kids and grandchildren to have the chance of life, when my time is up, hey ho, but if it happens too soon, I'm gonna ask St. Peter for a refund !!!

Liz you really can do the Irish dancing? We all have everlasting memories of our parents. My dad was the original slower routine of River Dance. He also taught me ballroom dancing. I miss so much but I have passed on silly songs and dances to my grandchildren, but I do not want to outlive them, I just hope they will pass on the silly things to their off-spring and when the time comes they can also pass on the silly things that they remember from me. It goes on and hopefully goes on but in memories.

I certainly would not want to live forever. I would like to live as long as I had good physical and mental health, but otherwise, definitely not. I would love to see my son settled and happy and hope very much that I see a grandchild (I am coming up 60 and my son approaching 30) so, still some hope.

Just a thought; there was a funeral today in Bury St Edmunds (where we live) of the 100th soldier to die in the conflict in Afghanistan. The boy was 23. What I think is beyond the pale is to bury your children. It should not be in the scheme of things. Like flowerfairy says, I would give my life for my son and to stand by and watch your son buried 2 days before Christmas (or any time, come to that) I find I cannot come to terms with.

RIP young man.

Jeannie, that is a very sobering thought. My thoughts are with these families, too many young men losing their lives. Puts things into perspective. Time to count my blessings, my step son is in the Royal Navy and will be away over Christmas and New Year so our thoughts will be with him and hope that at sometime over the festive season he will be able to contact us and of course his wife and three gorgeous children.

If only the old fashioned wish of peace on earth and goodwill to all men could actually happen.

We all want to live longer but not for ever. Ask someone who reached 120 and he will still ask for another 5 years. As it is, the uncertainty is part of the fun. I am not afraid of death. When the time comes we all say good bye. The important thing is not to become too rich money wise but to become very rich in your heart and leave behind a good name.

Agree Chris make every day count, dont forget to tell your loved ones every day that you LOVE THEM as one never knows when it could be the last time, and never go to bed on a row

God bless all the families who have loved ones abroad, they are forever in our hearts and minds
