over Christmas, know nothing about dogs but looks like a spaniel puppy, chocolate brown coat. Not well looked after, so can't see that anyone has 'lost' it and it is very frightened. Have fed it on a morning before work, just because I couldn't see the little thing starving.Have just called KAR, they said they cannot take any more dogs in, but also there is a months waiting list for them to take it and neuter it. They also said they want a 50TL donation to do it, now I do not mind paying this actually, but surely they do not rely on a person in a house near where the dog has been dumped to pay for it every time?I would presume then,if they are full that they would also just bring it back to where they took it from before??

Hi Bank Im still waiting for a call once Margaret Ray is back re the street dogs that turned up om me. All I want them to do is take them back to the area they are from. For thier our safety.> Its so awful when we read stories like this everyday and god knows i get more than my share dumped on me. I now have 4 I need to find homes for. I thought that the vets did it free if they were street dogs. good luck x

Lilli, Margaret is back now. The story I got is that you wait for KAR and pay 50TL or you take the dog to the vets and pay up. There is no way I could get this dog to the vets anyway, it is terrified and won't come near.

What sort of ridculous policy is this? Relying on the kindness of the people who find, help, feed the stray has to pay for the neutering. With a policy like that, and the onus falling on ordinary people to stump up the cash, even more strays will die of starvation, poisoning, or road kill.

Hi Tara it now seems that the policy is to encourage members of the community to open feeding stations and suggested i find one away from the restaurant and take them there. These poor dogs were left in the alsancak area last august. Someone must have been feeding them. Also suggested I frontline them and give them worming tablets. I just cant take anymore . Im afraid what the other shops might do to them.

Lilli, I know that you did what is possible - it's time for you to call the Alsancak Belediye. Tell them the dogs are a nuisance for the (customers of the) restaurant. Then close your eyes and try to forget them - you did more than most people. You *have* to cross the line between emotion and common sense.

Thanks Lilli. Going to go to KAR and get it sorted. As I said, have not had any animals before, and so have a really silly question! This little dog is in a real state its fur is all matted up with god knows what. I am going to try and get it to the vets for a once over, would the vets also give it a good bath etc, or don't they do stuff like that! Clueless or what!

Liz, those two strays with tags in their ears, are not out of a night. I went at 8.15am this morning to the Limasol Bank next to Pizza. And a guy got out of a White BMW went to the door inbetween Pizza and the furniture shop opened the door and I watched the two dogs come rushing out and straight for Guido's and laid there, seemed strange to me where was they all night until this guy arrived. then he got back in his car and drove off,

Sibel at Pet Life is situated behind the big Smart furniture store in Karakum, just turn at the Smart turn, you think you are going in to their car park but actually you go behind the store and her surgery is the 2nd house on the right. The KAR office is in Girne, Turn right at the corner that passport restaurant is on (if you facing down the road) and follow the road along it veers to the left and the I think that the KAR office is on the first floor of a blue apartment block there in the right....I hope these directions are correct its a while since Ive been there.
