There's a piece in a UK paper today on the 'Cyprus Talks' and Talat and his GC counterpart are apparently planning to meet and talk across 'the kitchen table' in Talat's own home early in the New Year - away from their usual advisors, note-takers etc. Just the two of them. Sounds interesting and original !

Andre,

I do actually feel for the guy (Talat) he has been in a no win situation since sep 2008 and now he has the election hanging over his head,

Paul.

As I mentioned ijn another thread, this is old news and the two leaders have now changed their minds and decided against having meetings in each others respective homes.

Bet they still go ahead - but without any publicity as to the 'where and when'. How could they reasonably be expected to have informal talks on such a serious subject with all that pre-publicity? They'll be keeping their heads down but I wouldn't be surprised if they do still get together for some serious chin-wag. Its showdown time at the Last Chance Corall.

i recall reading about a plan B....(.looks like plan A is defunct.).....is it anticipated that the new president will be part of the implementation process....or is it in the domain of Pres. Talat....or are the plans just a lot of hot air....

perhaps they really will meet discreetly,

but only in order to discuss a dignified termination of "the deal that never was"

while both have invested a lot of political capital in this highly predictable dead end

so expect an anodyne statement like:

"we agreed totally on the need to settle all future disputes by negociation"

because if it ends in a row, expect plan B; turkish annexation and crocodile tears

what an old cynic I am...but see if I'm right
