Anyone have an idea of what the costs are for fabricating and fitting metal security bars on the outside walls covering the windows? I know that obviously it depends upon how many windows and how big but a rough “by the meter” cost would suffice. Chegs

Are you sure about this? If there is an earthquake, you won't be able to get out through your windows. You will be trapped inside. The door might not be an option.

We thought about this as we have a bungalow but the thought of having a fire indoors and not being able to escape soon changed my mind!

I really appreciate all the advice but I am aware of the pros and cons as I have had multiple properties with bars and security shutters of various kinds and designs over the years. What I would like is an approximate costing if anyone has actually fitted or investigated the installation. Chegs

We bought an old property with existing bars and did think about taking them off - so glad we didnt !!!!! If there is a fire it is unlikely to spread fast in a property with limited soft furnishings that is made of concrete!!! And the ability to leave open the windows all summer without worries is great. Try Lydia for bars her name on board is Wiser - she will be able to arrange this for you as her partner does this (and has done so for me in the past )
