I have been married for 26 years now and i have washed, cooked, hoovered, polished, changed dirty nappies etc but i have never, ever ironed clothing.Today that all changed and i am no longer an ironing virgin.GOD ISNT IT BORING.Me and my big mouth.Last night we where all sat round chatting about things and i happened to mention about a pile of ironing in the kitchen. And made the mistake about boasting about how quick and easily i would be able to carry out this chore.Five hours later i am not even half way through the bloody pile,

Paul.

Nice one Paul about time you learned. My hubby learned this summer after being married for 37 years though he still insists he can only iron squares!

Paul. If it's any consolation to you I've always ironed my own shirts.

I'm definitely the odd one out here but give me a pile of ironing and some music to listen too and I find it very relaxing & therapeutic.

jimmyG - it's a shame that you live at the opposite end of the country to me, otherwise I'd have been straight round to yours - with a huge pile of ironing. I'd even bring some CD's for you to listen to. I can't say fairer than that

Congratulations Paul at least now you know how it feels. Even sipping on some white wine I still find it the most boring of household chores and admit to now and again giving up and going to an ironing service, 40 items for £23 (doesn't include bedding or curtains). everything comes back on hangers or neatly folded worth every penny. A little more practice and you could start your own little ironing service!

great

i used to have a lodger that paid me to iron his shirts (business man in city)

got it down to 1 minute a shirt...and got paid £1 per shirt...and that was 15 years ago, not a bad rate i reckon

My husband will do some ironing for me about once a month so I don't complain too much however he draws the line at items of clothing with women's shape, so I end up doing all mine .... apart from my pj's!!!

I went into the army straight from school at 16 years old as a boy soldier so I was exposed to ironing at an early age even now I still iron my own clothes as my mum and two wives have never been able to iron my clothes how I want them.

I find ironing relaxing stick on some music and get ironing............

Yep Paul I was 16 when I was introduced to Ironing by me mum.....was told that if I wanted anything ironed then I had to do it myself. She gave me one lesson and I never forgot it.

When I retire to Cyprus, I may well take some ironing in !

well done Paul

But in family my Father taught us there are no jobs with labels on them so if they need doing best to get on with them, he taught us boys/girls to cook/clean/iron any job that had to be done, it was a good lesson as our Mum died when we were very young children, so well done Dad x

I don't know what all the fuss is about. I do my fair share of ironing and I do all the trousers myself because I am better at it. We now use one of those steam irons with a separate tank and lots of steam which does make ironing easy.

Many years ago we had a student from Turkey staying opposite us. His father was one of those despots who would not even get up and get a glass of water to drink. One day he saw me doing the ironing and he could not believe his eyes. Next day he saw me using the sewing machine and he was in real shock. Eventually he graduated and is now helping his father run their own factory manufacturing paint emulsions. We are good friends and I often tease his father about it but he has not changed one bit and his son is now treating his wife in the same manner.

I hate ironing with a passion espically here when its so hot, however once I get stuck in I can iron for hours with my music and my lavender spray. nothing like the smell of freshness when puting the lot away. I do find it relaxing when Istart . Paul you can do mine anytime xxxx

That has done it you are now doomed, you should have ironed creases into her best blouse or put an iron burn on the bum of her jeans and then she would never let you iron again now she will expect you to do it all the time........

Paul, No ironing in 26 years , lucky bugger! you've been spoilt. On my own at seventeen had to have clean shirt everyday, used to cheat sometimes though and only iron front, coller and cuffs, some in office probably wondered why I kept my jacket on.

Used to listen to Motown

kind regards

When my son was 18 he had a bit of a do amd many stayed over. Before they went out clubbing, one of his mates shouted down the stairs that he had left his shirt on the back of the dining room chair for me to iron.

I left it a while and shouted up to him that I had cut all the (designer) tags off the shirt before ironing it as it made it easier to iron. You have never seen a kid move so fast. When he came downstairs I showed him the iron, board and the shirt. He never forgot the lesson. LOL
