Today I was unfortunately "Rear Ended" in a traffic accident. 3 cars involved...pick up truck hit car behind me and he hit me.

Police arrived within 10 minutes and moved cars to side of road. Did some measuring and checked our details and documents. They told me that the man in the pick up truck was to blame and I was to call at the police station to give a statement at 13:00. Gave my writen statement and was introduced to representative of the garage who were appointed to do the repairs on behalf of the pick up drivers insurance.

The police decided that the pick up was at fault and he had to pay for the repairs to the other two cars.

The police officers shook my hand when I was leaving and appologised for my inconvinience.

If the insurance company of the responsible vehicle did not act so responsibly, the police could do nothing but just record the incident and the drawings. You should really name and thank the insurance company involved.

Our friend rear ended someone about 2 weeks ago, (her fault) She said that lapta police where Fantastic, that was the word she used.

She said they attended promptly, took her to lapta police station sorted everything on the spot she was third party so she paid for her own car repairs,

It was all done and dusted everyone happy and her car back within the week.

Well done Lapta Police.

Long as no-one was hurt is the main issue. Cars, trucks can be repaired or replaced but nice to know that things went well with you and the police were sensible.

Msg 8 are you one on the not-so-law-abiding citizens who have left the UK to avoid justice? Joking aside, and it was intended as a joke - there are good police officers. Unfortuanately you will always get a few bad apples in the barrel.

When I was involved in an accident in August 2006 on the Girne "High Street" (just at the top opposite Gunes Insurance office), the Police were prompt in arriving, taking drawings and escorting us all to the Police Station.

I was in standing traffic and the vehicle behind, a Ford Transit Van, suddenly shot forward into my car that pushed me forward into a Ford Escort Van. My Mazda Demio was now 6 inches shorter with both the rear bumper, hatchback, front bumper and wings pushed in. Luckily no other damage was done. It also transpired that the driver of the Ford Transit had been on the phone and his foot slipped off the clutch. The Police threw the book at him. He was petrified in the Station and all appolgetic, but it didn't stop him feeeling the full wrath of the law.

An English speaking officer came and spoke to me and I wrote my statement. By that time a representive of the Transit drivers Insurance had turned up and had my car in a garage in less than an hour...........

Repairs took 2 weeks and through out the Transit drivers Insurance company lent me a hire car.

If it could only be so simple in the UK.

UK police just take the details and you have to chase your Insurance company to get anything done. Wish we really had the same system here that they have in the TRNC.

Haven't had any contact with police in N.Cyprus (so far!) but always found Istanbul

police very respectful and I will never forget seeing a young policewoman giving up

her seat to someone in a bus. You'll get all sorts in all police forces.

Very nice these TRNC policemen. Done for speeding with a handheld camera, and well over the country limit not just the village limit, contrary to what one might think from message 8, they kept showing me the reading and the fine. I kept apologising and saying "yes fair cop 'guv when can I pay"..this must have stunned them, as they promptly ramped the speed I was (allegedly) doing downwards into a lesser fine bracket, shook my hand and wished me a nice day.

I had an accident in our car, someone drove out of a side road right into the drivers door. The police came along, took us all to the police station, took statements and all the time very helpful and polite.

The police then got in touch with the other drivers insurance company and 2 hours after the accident our car was in the body repair shop and I got it back 36 hours later.

We could not have asked for better service from both police and insurance company.

I was also targeted with rude phone calls from Turkey a couple of years back, which may sound funny but receiving between 70 and 80 calls a day was not! In the end I had to give in and change my number but the police once again were great and tried their best to sort it out but unfortunately it was a little out of their hands as this was from Turkey.

I have had nothing but respect from the police and only speak as I find them.

Mr racoonchic

Sorry for being pedantic but you cannot be accuse someone of slander on a writen bulletin board.

Slander is an oral defamation only. If you want to "slander" someone in writing then its called libel.

However under a civilised Scottish law there is no such thing as slander nor libel. The offence is defamation of character. However that assumes that one has some character to defame.

Not been drinking, not sitting in passenger seat. . No phone with me. Wearing seat belt.

By the way, this is serious, not flippant. As I mentionrd earlier, I incurred a 119tl fine and 15 points on licence!

Believe me, I was not very happy, but when I went to pay the police were, quite literally, pi**ing themselves.
