I have had a recurring head cold for a couple of months now. Headaches, blocked sinuses hacking cough etc etc and i'm curious as to why, when it goes away and i start to get back to normal, it suddenly flares up again!! It's getting ridiculous now. I don't normally take anything for it, maybe a paracetamol to lower raging temperatures, but this time thanks to a friend i have the lot, paracetamol, lemsips and bennylin!! Maybe i'l have better luck this time around! Does anyone else have this problem? DD

Hi Sam - yes, me! It's driving me mad. I have exactly the same symptoms as you have. It seems to be clearing up and then, within a couple of days, comes back. I am also taking all the same remedies as you. It seems to get worse when I am indoors with the central heating on. This has been on more than usual recently, due to the very low temperatures. Does anyone have any ideas on how to get rid of this once and for all please? J

I was once advised to see a GP if I had a health problem - but that of course was before the time you could ask GP's on this bulletin board for advice.

You need to get yourself checked out. Don't assume it's just a cough and a cold - see a GP.

Re message 1 DD. Just a word of warning when you are taking Paracetamol, Lemsip also contains Paracetamol so be very careful when you are taking both as you could accidentally overdose. Also any headache of a duration like you have had it needs investigation. Time to see a Doc Sam I think. Chris

| Actually i am a smoker, which is what i put the cough down to...maybe it is time to see a doc though, although it seems rather silly to see a doc for a cold....i think i'l sit this bout out, but if it returns again, i shall see the doctor...i'm just wondering if anyone else is getting this...in Cyprus... | DD Just a thought if you are prone to coughs and colds might be a good idea for you to get the flu jab when you see the Dr. Chris |

That's a good idea, but i thought it was better to have these little illness's to encourage your body to build it's own antibodies? Although it seems, i'm not building any at the moment lol Thanks for the advice, do you know of a doctor who i can get this from, without spending a small fortune? DD

As a smoker you will no doubt have damaged your lungs. The Spiro test will let you know exactly how damage you have done. Persistent coughs and colds are an indication that something is wrong. Don't leave it get yourself checked out asap.

Actually surgeons recomend you take echinacea after surgery as this promotes healing....makes sense that one should take it while being poorly. Although surgeons also recomend that you start taking it before surgery as well.... DD

Most chemists also do the flu jab. Certainly the one in Catalkoy does. It's not expensive. Several people I know have been put off it though, because it has given them a bad reaction. A bad cold when they didn't have one before. I have never had the flu jab yet. It won't stop a cold, anyway.
