Just returned from the sunny TRNC after having a lovely break. We visited a restaurant called PEANUTS which is just outside the Girne Harbour (200m) wall to the East. It has a sea front location, very nice decor and more importantly very good food at good prices. Its sign posted from the main road and is well worth a visit. 9/10

Ambience without a doubt. Niazi's great food but food was served with a bit of attitude! Ezic Premier great too.

Peanuts is part of the Ezic group and all 3 are very good in Girne.
Try Lemba in Lapta - always good.
Sticking on Fried Chicken try Califorian in Lefkosa.

Can you be a bit more specific about what Top 20 means. Are you talking price, quality, overall package, etc. Wouldn't it be better to do a top 20 in say a price band? I think it's difficult to compare for example Efendi with Ezic Peanuts especially for someone who has never been before.

To be more specific, top 20 restaurants regardless of price, menu, location, value for money. The idea is for our clients whether first time visitors or returning to North Cyprus to have a choice of restaurants to choose based on Cyprus44 members previous experiences, I know it can be difficult as one night a client might have an amazing dining experience at restaurant x and the following night a client might not have the same experience at the same restaurant, all based on customers expectations, If we can manage to offer clients a top 20 and that can attribute towards part of the "best" holiday experience then all will be happy. The same goes with beaches, historic sites, taxi drivers, activities i.e scuba diving the list is endless.

Hi Steve and Tina,
The website has had a lot of interest and the rental market is moving at a steady pace, I drove passed the apartments the other day and couldn't believe that the place has not been totally completed, I hope you sorted out the issue with the transformer costs e.t.c
I look forward to seeing you in September

It depends if you want genuine local food or u.k cuisine. For local ,I would
endorse Niazis (no 'attitude' so far) excellent, and The Address' also superb &
close to sea. Had lovely Sunday lunch at St. Kathleen' s sea bass done to pefection preceeded by 13 tasty mezes. Ezic is also v. good value & service.
Friends speak highly of Aphrodite, Nr. Lapta, fresh fish from sea, makes own wine & lemonade, dancing essential-- atmosphere

Address, Ambience,Di Figaros all excellent, favourite is Carpenters run by two brothers, superb food, surroundings and really friendly.
Also ate in small local restaurant in central Kyrenia, cannot remember the name but good simple food, reasonably priced and very friendly. It had a small courtyard if that helps to locate it.

Such a small island with so many great Restaurants, were do you start?
Here are just a few for us;
Central - Ali Garip - Mixed Menu, Try the Chinese Chicken and they have an original starter bread muffins, the walnut one is especially yum.
Catalkoy - Rafters - Sunday Dinner thier Yorkshire Puddings are brill.
Bellapais - Bella Moon - Turkish food, also good Steaks. Friendly small restaurant, they have always picked us up from Pia Bella and returned us to Hotel free of charge!
We visited a Chinese Restaurant which was just opposite Ship Inn, Barbecue Lamb, corr could get addicted to that !

Hello! I've chosen places that have been consistently of a high standard.
West of Kyrenia:
The Veranda in Karaoglanoglu. Lovely more traditional food, in a beautiful setting right by the sea. Also had fantastic gourmet food several times at Vaha Spa last year when their chef was Michelin 2 starred. I think sadly they have changed both the chef and the menu now so can't give an up to date verdict.
East of Kyrenia:
I love the Bellapais Gardens - again superb food and the setting is wonderful. We had 3 courses there on Friday night with wine, beers and congac and the cost was 25 pounds per head, which for the quality and overall experience I think is excellent. I am also a big fan of Al Shaeen in Karakum - good Indian style food (European fayre also available) with friendly welcome and great service. Again 50ytl a head will get you at least a decent 2 course meal with a few drinks!
Central Kyrenia:
The Grapevine was lovely (similar in style to the Veranda). Location not great as right next to a petrol station but the food more than makes up for it and as I recall the price was not too bad. And of course there's the Dragon chinese restaurant in the Rocks complex. It is one of the finest Chinese restaurants I have ever tried, seriously high quality and very good service. Not cheap, but you get what you pay for I think!

I agree with the Dragon, it is supberb but not cheap. If you like chinese you could also try Chopsticks, small but good food and very friendly. There is a great Italian behind the Harbour - I think it is called Set but not sure, great food and atmosphere. Seamus o'Flynns Happy Valley as stated on other post. The Amibance and Address - again great locations and food

Veni Vici in Lapta is a nice Italian.
Ezic Premier is really style over substance (fab architecture and not so great food)
Oleander in Karaoglanoglu is good Indian
Pizza King in Alsancak has moved to a great new American style diner. Great pizza
Archways and Tervetuloa (Alsancak) for Cypriot food

Phylray you were lucky you didnt get 'attitude' because we felt like they were happy to serve the locals very quickly and efficiently but messed us around a bit especially with the childrens food - they forgot one child's food and then blamed us for not ordering it!!! Somehow I dont think we would have fed one child without the other hence why we got some 'attitude' from them when we asked where the other main course was!! Having said that the food that did arrive correctly was very good and I will be going back!

simbas,
you should have realised by now that Nigel can't spell - Pasta Mania and its at the bottom of the Karaman/Edremit turn off - so technically not Karaoglanoglu. HALFWAY HOUSE - Karmi road up in the mountain - superb local food - nice with no pretenions, just good honest grub and plenty of it.

don't get me wrong - the odd spelling mistake I can take, but when it means I can't understand what someone is trying to say because its so bad, that is where I draw the line!

Nigel,
I will endorse that, Veni Vici, is just to the East of Lapta, just before the strip on the left.
We ate there 3 times in March and each time was a delight.
We will certainly be going back again on our next visit.

It may be but the parents best have big pockets as its a tad on the expensive side.
The pasta mania may be better but do not go at weekends.
Go for the pasta dishes as the ones with veg and potatoes use frozen veg and frozen chios .
The food was delicious and presentation great.

Thanks Littlenige
Where is the pasta mania - I am new to the web-site and don't know my way round N. Cyprus that well.
Have stayed at The Sempati and also rented a villa last year in Alsancak.
This year renting a villa in Lapta.

Will do - shall I mention your name or is that tempting fate!!
Have started compiling my little book of places to visit and eat!!
Any more suggestions greatly received.
Went to The Mercure last year (The casino bit) just as it had opened and sat people watching especially The Russians!!
Had several drinks before we moved on to Jashans for a great curry (bit exxy)
not realising you don't get charged for the drinks but unfortunately we didn't do any gambling but had a good night!!

has no one eaten at the Sushi Co at the Mercure? Not sure its as good as Chinese House, but its a different experience and I enjoyed a lot - specially the ice cream in cornflake batter for afters!
What about Messina down near Ambiance (turn off from Tempo in K'oglu)? Always had a nice meal there too. Also another one in town on the little road opposite Colony - Padisah - used to be good.
Also Grapevine (on road down to Colony), now being run by Melih previously of Padisah is nice, but quite pricey I think.
If you like seafood then Neptune down the road from Dome Hotel - thats good too or the Altinkaya in Alsancak.
List is endless eh! What about Kervan Pizza down near the Mercure - lovely place to go when the sun is going down with beer. Good for the kids as well.

Kervan is very good but last time we were there all the ground works down on the beach created lots of dust which kind of spoiled it slightly.
HH Still think the Sushi bar in the Dragon takes a lot of beating

another excellent choice with kids is the Ezic chain of restaurants - there are 3 - one on the main road to Girne coming from K'oglu (recently re-furbed), the new Ezic Premiere which is huge and just by the mosque on the new bypass road (buffet night on Tuesdays for 29ytl per person - great value!), or Ezic & Peanuts which is the other side of town - turn off before the hospital.
All very very good for kids with kiddy menus etc, and not very expensive either.

Thanks HH - I perhaps misled you when I regarded my two daughters one 18 in 2 wks (oh no!!!!!) and the other 14 when we are in N. Cyprus. as kids!! (Sorry Girls!!)
I must get my head around the fact that they are young women and not two wayward toddlers (I know which I would prefer) Actually I know how the 14yr old sometimes behaves!!!
We also offered to pay as an 18th BD pressie for our eldest to go to Ayia Napa with her friends but she wanted to come with us ( where have we gone wrong)

Found You.......
I sent you an email.
Kervan is a great place, just before you get to the Mecure and it overlooks the bay, high up. You can just sit there for hour drinking the Efes and eating. If your going in the height of the summer, you might want to go there a little later in the day, when the sun is a little lower and watch the sun setting over by the mountains.

Went to Dunya in Karaoglanoglu last night. It's 40ytl per head for full meze plus all your drinks included. Lots and lots of really good quality home made food followed by fresh fruit. Very good indeed.

Tracy if you fancy a sun-downer with that sunset I can thoroughly recommend Kervan's brandy sour or better still a banana milkshake!!

We have been going to the Farmhouse for years and always enjoy our meals. I do believe that they are giving up in October due to an apartment block spoiling their view. We are hoping they move and set up somewhere near us.

This restaurant is the best kept secret , opened earlier on this year , which is council run , it is situated on the coastal road at Tatlisu going towards the Karpaz , you can even stay the night as it has brand new log cabins . It is set on the waters edge , sunsets are fantastic . We were served a fantastic meze fresh bread , mixed kebab , chips and salad , fresh melon , with soft drinks all for for 52 ytl for 3 people . The bottled water they served is from the springs of Tatlisu . Enjoy .

I question the value of this thread as everyones tastes are different and we who post here like what we like but I dont think we are experts in good food.
Jamie Oliver ( I am sure lobylud saw you in Kyrenia) which retuarant is your recommendation, no there does not appear to be any Sainsburys here.

Based on our last visit Stone Grill and Ambiance were both excellent, this time who knows? We definitely want to try Patina and Vaha Spa but Patina hasn’t got a mention here.
Am interested in what Kitty1 has to say about costs, its 3 years now since we were last in Northern Cyprus but it seems like quality food at reasonable prices is still the norm!

We went to Guido's last week and the food was fab. My partner likes to think of himself as a bit of a "foodie" and was really impressed with his meal. Top marks Guido's, we'll definitely be going back.

OK the reaction to this is going to be " Crikey that is far too expensive" but it ain't. Depends if you loke a very special evening occasionally.
The Rocks
It isn't cheap but it is bloody good and I thing excellent value for money with gorgeous surroundings, top class staff and superb food. On a Saturday night they have a great pianist from Russia playing. No problem parking either.
