Hi, can anyone tell me what education is available or career opportunities for my 15 yr old daughter we're moving out in July. She doesn't speak any Turkish yet.

We have not long moved to NC our daughter goes to a school in Nicosia which is a fair distance from us but we were not keen on the other schools. We were told that the school teaches in English and my daughter is taking subjects that she wants but it seems that they do not speak much English which is difficult for her as she does not speak Turkish very well yet, but she is going to a tutor for this but by the time she has picked the language up well enough she would have failed her exams. We have been to the school a couple of times about this but nothing has changed. We have found this disappointing as the school said that all lessons would be taught in English apart from the Turkish lessons obviously. But there does not seem to be alot we can do about it. So we have decided to move from here apart from the school situation we cannot find that much for her to do here or to meet kids her own age, and also I am finding it difficult myself being here also.

There are good schools in NC. GAU,Sunny lane and ESK all offering IGCE,AS/A2 levels following English Curriculum. Alternatively she can home tutor or have a private tutor usually the charge is 40-60 tl per hour. for various subjects.

Please check out British council in Cyprus we site you can also find very useful info here.

We came here August09 with our 14yr old son and he started his Gcse's at Sunny Lane. He is very happy at School and all their lessons are in English. Outside school he was very bored to begin with but not so much now he is getting used to the change in lifestyle. We do much more stuff together rather than the kids doing one thing and adults something else, getting together with other families is the norm. They can carry on with their education until university level but career opportunities will probably be in Turkey or Europe rather than here.

I'd say if you all get on as a family, you'll be fine. If she doesnt like hanging out with Mum and Dad it may be more difficult for her. Learning some Turkish now will give her a head start here and with the internet she can keep in touch with her mates in the UK. My son 'talks' to his uk friends via PS3 and Facebook most days.

If you email me, we can get her talking to the kids here on facebook.
