They predicted no let up in the freezing snap until at least mid-January, with snow, ice and severe frosts dominating. And the likelihood is that the second half of the month will be even colder

It certainly looks that way..I cleared my drive of about 6inches of snow this morning simply because there is more snow forcast for Mon/tues. and felt I might find it hard going trying to shift twice as much. Not as young or fit as I used to be.Very, very cold out there at the moment ,could get down to -6/7.c tonight. Glad I dont have to work any more...

Are these the same forecasters who predicted the hottest summer ever for the UK in 2009?

Greylag..I have lived in my current house for37 yrs and it has to be 20yrs since I last saw it as bad this. I thought global warming meant the planet was heating up ,not getting colder...

I too can clearly remember the winter of 1962/1963. I had to check it up today on Wiki to remind myself which winter it was. I was still at school then. I caught a train for school & then a bus. The snow was so bad that we had to walk to school for 3/4 miles because the buses could not run because of the snow & ice build up. This went on for some time. They didn't shut scholls then because of snow. You still had to get to school & work & you didn't get taken to school in cars like now. We didn't even own a car back then.

Global warming simply means the climate is slowly changing with more rain & snow too. Probably this winter weather has nothing to do with it.
