I don't normally ask questions that involve lots of opinions...i hate rocking the boat and all...but i'm kind of curious about peoples opinions of homeopathy and wether it works or not. Do you think it's really worth the money and time or do you think it's a crock of sh*t and plays on the placebo effect?

Years and years ago, herbs and such like, were what people believed in, and for the most part, did the trick, but now we have chemicals and science, which, in my eyes, seems to be doing a much better job....or am i institutionalised.....??

I wouldn't knock it at all. 1995 I was in a major RTA and lost the use of my right arm. I left hospital and went directly to work ( self employed in those days) A female customer of mine ( unknown to me until then) did Raiky ( don't know how to spell it but its non contact healing..Fantastic results..One of my many injuries was my right should socket was spilit wide open and my arm used to drop in and out of joint, Doctors thought it would grow over but not close to the original size. Three months on at the legal end of the medical examinations Xrays showed it completely back to normal and there's been no bother with it since.

She was able to tell me where i had pain without asking, the power that makes it work is drawn from thre patient but the transmission made her hands so hot she had to stop every 10 minutes.

I had a scapular in 3 pieces, ulna joint in 3 peices, ribs, upper arm and temp brain damage plus my arm but apart from the metal implants I'm ok. I wish i could trace her

I would say it is a sophisticated placebo at best. That water contains a memory of what it "could" contain, is in my personal opinion - yes - a crock of s**t

Sam, in my humble opinion, there is room for both homeopathic remedies and 'scientific' remedies.

Perhaps (as I think a lot of people have found) used in unison, things may work. However, I would never, never, rely purely on homeopathic remedies. Give me science, any time!

PS I worked for a Hospice for many years and have seen (perhaps understandably) desperate people cling to the belief that 'nature's remedies' would cure them/prolong their lives. Sadly, not so.

BoTanica - your views on 'sophisticated placebos' is very intereresting. Amazing that people put so much belief in anything their doctor might give them, don't you think?

Daisy - only tried a homeopathic remedy once. It worked, so I am not as sceptical as I was before that.

DD, I think it is something you have to try out yourself and believe it if you wish.

I don't honestly know whether I believe or not as I have never tried it. Interestingly I tried acupuncture for the first time last year and was stunned at how wonderful I felt afterward's and wondered why I never tried it out before so I guess homeopathy could produce the same feeling should I ever get around to trying it.

It is down to personal belief and how you feel as a result of it and everyone differs.

If you had asked me 6 years ago I would have said definitely no! But since coming to live here in NC and listening to the locals and the way they use home grown herbs etc.. e.g. Mint tea for stress I have to admit now that there is something in it.

However I strongly believe that you have to believe in what you are taking or it will not work.

Why not contact KatyHomoeopath (I think that's her name on here) She will know more about this than most of us.

Used to work for a Pharmaceutical company in the UK. We made homeopathic tablets and personally would not put any faith in them. Raiki is different, it is about getting your energy levels correct by heat generated from you body, I have practiced for 3 years and do believe it can help but cannot cure, the rest is up to the patient and the body.

I would think it depends on the seriousness of your illness.

No 1.

Correct in what you are saying but think now that there is a place for conventional medicine to work side by side with alternative medicines.

I am sure that herbs do have a place in medicine, the problem is that it has been proven that in homeopathy there are such minute amounts that most of the time you are taking tablets with no particles at all of the original substance. On that basis I cannot see how it can be of value except for placebo.

I think there's few closed minds here.

1997 living in the Amazon for a year working for an oil Co. I fell of a motorbike and grazed my knee quite badly on the rough ground of the jungle. I dowced it with iodene ( ouch ) and kept it covered to heel over. it got worse.

I went for ( normal clinical ) treatment, a bucket of pills, creams and a bill !! but it got worse.

A local girl in the vilage I was staying in took a leaf of a tree ( no idea what kind of tree ) boiled it in water and applied it to my knee. a few days later it's all good again.

Many of the ingredients for over the counter medication is sourced from tropical plants. Alovera that goes into the skin creams you use at home (and after sun) comes from a plant that looks a bit like a cactus. C and squeaze the leaf and it oozes out, use it neat or mix it into something to make it marketable.

I'm not saying everything you buy works but theres only one way to find out

Part of it may be mind over matter, but personally I've seen too many cases where homeopathy has worked where'normal' medicene hasnt. each to their own, one thing for sure, daily dose of Garlic capsules and not 1 Mozzie/sandfly bite in 3 years .

When my son was 7 he had awful warts covering both hands. My GP sent us to the hospital for them to be frozen off. The 1st session they did 3 warts and said he would need about 8/10 sessions in all. We came out and he cried all the way home as it had hurt him so much. I decide to take him to a homeopath, even though money was really tight and within 2 sessions the warts had all gone and have never come back, so yes I'm a believer. I also used hypericum tablets when I shut my finger in the door and the nail went black, within a week you wouldn't know anything had happened.

Arnica is great for bruises, calendula for open wounds and aloe vera for burns.
