I used to live there but moved back to UK. I was going out with a turk for 5 years. Im now being harassed on a daily basis, called 100's of times a day, emailed, texted, calls my family and friends, is nasty and verbally abusive, calls me names etc.. obviously if it was here i could go to the police and take out an injunction. Is there anything i can do from here for there?

Trudy, start off by changing your e-mail address and phone numbers surely? Depending on your phone you could probably block certain calls, also e-mail addresses. The police cannot take out an injunction, even in the uk, it is a civil matter under the brief circumstances you have mentioned. You would have to instruct a solicitor.

You can block him from texting and emailing and ask everyone who he's bothering to do the same. He will only keep it up as long as he is getting a response. In the meantime let the police know whats going on anyway. After that its getting some big boys to take him for a drive and have a ''chat'' with him.

Where abouts are you.

Im in Scotland. He is still there. The problem is that he has certain stuff on me which he is threatening to release if i dont answer his calls which is why i haven't changed my number as yet. I didnt really want to mention it but i suppose it sounds like quite a small problem if i dont. Its blackmail at its lowest form.

Trudy,

Go to the police in Scotland (where I presume you still are) they take this kind of thing seriously

Let Turkcell know what is going on as well.

If that doesn't work get a big friend over here to go and see him with a warning..

Thanks Nurse, i plan on going to the police today.

Didn't think about Turkcell, ill drop them a line today too.

Thanks for your help, its a bit embarrassing really but had to say something to get the advice.

Unfortunately the only proper big boy i know is in jail otherwise that would have been the perfect solution.

I'd weigh up what it is he can 'release' and what real harm would it do you. Just hurt your pride or do you real damage?

If it's just your pride then let him do his worst. Once he gets 'permission' from you he probably wont bother anyway.

He'll be the one who looks the fool in the end. Just ignore him as long as he cant physically hurt you.

Hi Trudy

I know the score here and it took a while to sort out. Firstly inform your local police. Try to record/document texts, phone calls etc. Forward anything you have to the TRNC london. They will eventually get this to the crime squad in Nicosia. Eventually it gets through. My sister in law has had death threats since since she broke up with this particulat Turk. Here is a quote below.

'u dont know turkis people verywell if sameone alse hurt turkis people honur going to pay badly'

My e-mail is andrew.cloughly@hotmail.co.uk .

We are good friend with the TRNC CID. When we go to Cyprus they make sure that we are protected.

E-mail me for more info.

I would tell bully boy you will take the texts and show the Police and give them his full name and address and all details in TRNC, plus a picture of him; if he then tries to come over, he will be stopped at the Airport (no idea if that is true or not - but he won't now). Blackmail should be taken seriously, and as to the embarrassing thing, we have all done things we aren't terribly proud of - it is the human element - some of us get found out, some of us don't - I would ride it out - and IF pictures or a video or somesuch becomes known to a friend or relative - just say - it was a mistake, I'm human - and change the subject - IF a friend disowns you for it - they weren't a friend in the first place.......if he does come over-remind him, his details are known, so should any harm come to you - the Police will find him first......DON'T let this ruin your life - move on - leave it behind......

you can go to the police where you live and under the harrassment act make a statement in respect of everything that has happened and they will be able to get information from your mobile company of the calls etc you are receiving as this will be used as evidence. If the person concerned was in the UK the police would verbaly warn him and record the warning that he has not to contact you again . If ignored this then he would be arrested and an injunction obtained. If the threats were serious enough then he wouldnt be warned he would just be arrested and an immediate injunction applied for. The harressment act brought this under the criminal system as well as the civil system and as such means it can be dealt with by the police which is a quicker way.

I am not sure if this applies in Scotland but if it does then you must insist to the police that they take it seriously.

The police should then send it off to the relevent authorities for the police here in cyprus to deal with.

Trudy:

1. Go to the police and file a compalint - take as much inofrmation as possible including the issue of 'blackmail'.

2. Keep a detailed log of calls, emails and sms's including time, date and content.

3. If you know someone who can go to Turkcell on your behalf - do this a.s.a.p.

4. If you know someone in his family with whom you still have some contact let them know.

5. Hvae a look at this site and others:

Good luck!
