As you say Bimbo, no surprise there. At least the increases are becoming smaller in percentage terms, than they used to be. 5.7% is almost rational for the TRNC. At one time, pre 2004/5? Mainland Turks paid far less than other expats. I hope they haven't gone back on that rule when they brought the cost of these 2 groups into line under the previous UBP (I think) Government. That Government were most reluctant to bring the cost for non-Turkish Expats down, but they wouldn't have dared put up the cost for Mainland Turks to the higher level. Pity the increases, every year, don't result in a better service from Immigration Dept. in Lefkosa. Flying pigs seen on the horizon.

RE msg 2, scruff: (...) the previous UBP (I think) Government. (...) => The previous Government started as a coalition of CTP and DP. Later is became a CTP and ÖRP coalition. The current UBP Government is based on a UBP majority in Parliament - after a smashing victory in the latest Parliamentary elections.

Sorry DC. Maybe didn't make myself clear. I wasn't talking about the CTP & DP coalition, but the former UBP Government back in the denktash era. I seem to recall that it was this Government that reduced the cost of Residency for non Turkish expats, but maybe I have the timescale wrong & it was the CTP/DP Government elected in mid 2004? My memory is getting dreadful. I do agree about the UBP. They are the better of 2 evils. CTP Government under Soyer. Don't even go there.

RE msg 5, yorgozlu: I don't see any reason to give up - if only many of the members here were half as interested in the life and problems of their hosting country TRNC as they seem to be interested in the UK. Yeah.

Yorguozlu, It,s in their blood, please don,t put us all in the same bracket, we hate the whingers as much as you. Some of us are very positive and supportive, but I see your point it certainly seems to be a very common passtime. Like my gran used to say" some folk would moan to be hung"

msg. 9 newscoop. I couldn't agree more. can't even pass a comment on a price increase in the TRNC now without being accused of whinging. msg. 5 Yorgozlu. What ever happened to you? I seem to remember your early posts on this forum being pleasant & helpful. Now you seem so bitter. For your info. I couldn't give a toss about the UK. I don't live there. Where did the UK. come into this? I certainly won't engage in any thread with you ever again. That's a promise.

A 5.7% increase!!!!!!!! Why do people complain about price rises here. 2 years ago the inflation rate was almost 20% and is falling quickly into single figures. In the UK, how much did car tax rise, petrol, TV licence (not needed here)..... need I go on. Please think before commenting on price rises, it is no different here to any where else on the planet. I do not always agree with the our friend yorgozlu but most of time he is right about the whinging brigade.

We spend 6 months here and 6 in UK. I didn't see msg 1 as "whingeing", merely informative. The first time we did our residency, we didn't take enough TL with us and sterling was declined. You think, where's the nearest exchange, bank or atm. By the time we returned, the young lady that was processing our application was searching the building for us, I think it was nearing the lunch break. She still smiles at the memory each year we go. Tony ps I think the only item that costs more here than UK is my car tax, 950tl against £210. More than offset by cheaper fuel here. Can't actually think of anything TC to moan about, mebbe I need a transfusion.
