One is Turkey’s amplitude. Meaning, the possibility of paving the way for shrinkage of power of founding countries in the EU like France and Germany. The other factor is that Turkey is a Muslim country. And Europe is not ready yet to accept a Muslim country in the EU

so true: "If Europe still targets or dreams about a united Cyprus and wants to prevent a split never to unite again, then it needs to change its attitude toward Turkey. In order not to lose a united Cyprus, Europe needs to work up an appetite and prepare carrots to spurn the excitement for Turkey.

Now the world is changing and Turkey will find its place in this newly established world"

Still confused as to why Turkey would even want to join the EU? Much better off for a Muslim country to remain as it is, at least they don't get many Christians campaigning about the killing of Christians in some far off war, that is nothing to do with them anyway.

Whatever happens will happen so just sit back and watch, nothing you can do about it as we (individuals) are too small anyway. But don't let that hold you back Grey, you go for it, at the very least it will give Cyprus Today something new to report on.

Still confused as to why anyone wants to join the EU. As a result I spend a day a week just filling in forms for the "Superstate"

The very FACT that Turkey is a Muslim state, is why we need them in the EC!

for all the hoo-ha since 1957, the basis of the eu was originally the franco-german alliance

only cynics point out it was totally within the framework of nato protection

...the unlikely friends have the largest voting bloc

and keep the southern states more or less in line with a series of payoffs

I can't for one moment see any of this crew admitting turkey for reasons well-known,

it doesn't need an extra veto from nicosia, that would be gilding the lily

yes I agree with wyn, it would be good for diversity to have turkey in the eu

but probably that is just why they cannot join this time

there's a misconception that politics is connected with logic rather than tribal loyalties

that's why events continue to knock into a cocked hat dreams of a single solution for cyprus:

when the parties can't even agree what the problems are!

let alone converge on solutions which will aways be rejected as one-size-fits-all-cypriots

no convergence, no deal happens...and that is that
